Excellent effort to knock over Lanka for only 174 on a flat day 1 pitch.
Now c'mon you guys - bat, bat and bat some more.

Aus wont ever sink to being as poor as say, the Windies have become. They'll always have 11 guys trying their best, at least, with good fielding, tailenders putting up a fight etc. In other words, they might sink to a New Zealand type of sh*tness, but not a Windies type of sh*tness.
I don't think they've 'sunk' that far at all. Never have. My first post back, in January: "I'm sure there's been a lot of derision and doom-mongering about Aus too... they just suffered the misfortune of meeting such a well drilled unit". Let's look at them, they got mugged like everyone else in an Indian 2-Test 'series', couldn't play high class swing bowling against Pak in Eng and lost a side on their way to number 1 (I wrote that last point in hesitance as it seems to touch a red-raw nerve with a few dicks).
It's hardly bottom-of-the-league form, is it? Their batting is prone to collapse but is still decent and their bowling's solid at the very least. They may struggle against SA, but I expect them to beat Ind.

Given that we'll be more primed than SA and we haven't lost over there for over forty years, we may do all right in the republic too.

There's not many even contests in test cricket at the moment, is there. Seems to be a lot of series where one side has been completely dominant.

In this series SL has been out of the picture fairly early in the tests. The Ashes was one-sided, the whole summer in England was also fairly devoid of competitive cricket.
SL not being able to put away the Windies was a warning sign for their potential struggles. Ditto India against them in the Caribbean notwithstanding the players they had missing.

Lads continue to exceed expectations. On a good deck, dismissing the Lankans for 174 is an outstanding effort. and to be 0-60 in response caps off a dominant day. Let's press on tomorrow to a healthy lead.

It's what makes India v Aus 2000-01 and Ashes 2005 & 2009 classics, Trev.Henry wrote:There's not many even contests in test cricket at the moment, is there. Seems to be a lot of series where one side has been completely dominant.

Yeah but it hasn't even been reasonably close. It's like test sides versus club sides.

Top effort by Aus. They must have one of the best away records in SL.
Re: Sri Lanka v Australia, 2nd Test, Kandy, 8-12 Sep, 2011
Only lost one game in SL - ever. And that was with both SRW and Gillespie being carted off to some dodgy Colombo Hospital in some dodgy Lankan rickshaw ambulances after their sickening collision while attempting a catch.

Considering Aus went into this series with a well deserved 5th spot ranking and the Lankans are at home, who are the team most at fault here?Henry wrote:skully wrote:It's what makes India v Aus 2000-01 and Ashes 2005 & 2009 classics, Trev.Henry wrote:There's not many even contests in test cricket at the moment, is there. They definitely have the wood over the Lankans.
The Aussie have them figured out. Unlike England and India, there is no players in the Sri Lankan side that Aus fear. They never even feared Murali. On the other hand, England were sh*t scared of what Murali might do, and when Jayasuriya got going, it was "oh, here we go..."

Huh. That's mental. Shows what having Murali in your pocket does for your chances out there.

We've won at least 4 matches having trailed on the first dig too.

So, whats the verdict on Copeland?
Unlikely to blow sides away, but likely to be a steady eddie and block one end up?

Keeps it tidy. A bit like Stuart Clark with even less pace. Bit of a dobber, really. Good batsmen should have the patience to nullify him and pick him off.

That's the thing...very very few modern batsmen have the technique or temperament to construct an innings let alone see off a bowler. He looks steady which is enough...hope he and Rhino keep fit for sometime to come.Henry wrote:Good batsmen should have the patience to nullify him and pick him off.

This series isn't on TV over here, so any clues as to why SL have suddenly become so crap?

Is that our Nath? Good stuff either way.
