End of over 24 (maiden) - India 65/4
SC Ganguly 12* (24b 2x4) Shoaib Akhtar 8-3-13-0
Yuvraj Singh 0* (4b) Yasir Arafat 7-1-22-3
Could be a very short thread.

It would be a bit unfair to judge him solely on his innings here. Great opportunity, but also a sticky situation.

I agree. Can't judge him on one. But if he does well here, I will be a convert.

IMO he certainly has got the stuff, but the problem is there're others who've also got (similar) stuff, plus the experience.

He was a promising Pakistani player, which means no one knows. He's supposed to be scoring a few runs in domestic cricket, according to Sohail.
As for Yuvi - Brilliant. Loved it.

Good hundred, but he's still over-rated. Yardley was actually suggesting he could be a great.
Why? 'Cause he's Indian and has scored a few hundreds on flat pitches against Pakistan.
Fabulous.

Still has to be seen what he does against Aus if he gets a chance, but that didn't look like a flat pitch when he first came in.

Drop him. He is clearly useless. All of his hundreds came on flat tracks and none of them were scored under any pressure

If all his hundreds have been made against Pakistan - by definition, he has not yet performed away from the sub-continent. If he subjects the Aussies to the kind of mullering he dished out today, then we can talk about him being out of the ordinary.

Subcontinental pitch !== flat pitch. Likewise, Australian pitch !== good pitch. Yesterday's pitch was a greentop, atleast for a while when he came out to bat.

But the pitch was slow - look at the ball Yuvraj got out to, he was through with the shot before the ball arrived. I don't think he'll have that problem in Aus.
Apart from that, Aussie bowlers are just a bit better than those he faced today!

I actually think Yuvraj will enjoy the quicker pitches in Australia.

Re: Maybe now we'll see what Yuvraj is made of
It wasn't green at all. Started off with a touch of movement in the morning session, and that was slow and low movement where decent batsman had time to play. Most of the batsman were out to crap shots, whereas Jaffer totally misread a ball that nipped back a little.
Difficult to bat on early, but once Sami/Arafat were the men bowling, it was just medium pace, and you could watch and wait for the ball.
Later on, there was absolutely nothing in the pitch, and it will be a belter over the next few days. It was a good innings, like I said, but against a poor attack (Shoaib injured), and on quite a flat pitch. Against England last year when the ball was moving, he was leaden-footed and looked totally out of his depth. Expect the same in Australia if the pitches offer anything (though they usually don't), and even when they don't if Clark's in good rhythm.

Yes, but that was later in the day. Anyhoo, the pacier and bouncier the pitch, the more Yuvraj will relish it, me thinks. So 'Aussie pitches' can only work to his advantage. Of course he has a bit of a problem with lateral movement, but who doesn't.
I don't think Yuvraj would've had a problem with a fit Shoaib bowling full throttle today. And the last time he made a century, it was in a similar situation - and Asif was bowling like a dream.

Yep, he is still the same batsman as he was almost 18-20 months ago.Against England last year when the ball was moving, he was leaden-footed and looked totally out of his depth.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah reet. He averaged over 40 in the series with two 70s and 2 40s. Not the stats of a man out of his depth.

But those runs were scored when the ball wasn't moving . . .

He only averaged 40 against England?
Pretty mediocre.

he averaged 20 in 2 tests, with a total of 64 runs. he had quite a poor run in tests that year, even against the windies

HS of 37 as well, so nice made up "facts" doremi. Naturally, I knew I was right before I said it and didn't make things up in order to suit my argument.
Still, Misbah's obviously the best, most talented batsman in the world currently, seeing the contempt with which he's treating those Indian bowlers on this super-swinging, double bunsen burner of a pitch. Them Pakistanis have done amazingly well to pass 300 really.
