Gutsy stuff from Yuvi. Good luck to the man. The news sounds promising.

he seems to have lost quite a bit of weight. at least he seems positive
that should probably be the end of his chain-smoking days as well. lucky for him it got detected relatively early

Re: Yuvraj Singh diagnosed with cancer
One is happy that Yuvraj survived cancer and is back playing cricket. Good for him, the game and his fans. But its pathetic that he is using it to sell himself in ads for insurance products instead of doing something constructive to help others fight it. It's pathetic the way he is commercializing even this! It's truly pathetic.

What a player he is...
Amazing talent, he is one of India's stunning talents of the last 25 a list that also includes Sachin, Azharuddin, Laxman and Kohli.
Concentrating on Yuvraj- he is superb and would like him to be the man of the TOURNAMENT as long as Pakistan wins the world cup.

Have you made it a habit of posting utter nonsense of late? Yuvraj is just a hit and run giggle player. Don't bracket him with test stalwarts who have brought glory [Yes for a while even Azharuddin] in the highest form of the game. He is not even half as good as Kohli in that format.

For all of his idiocy and not being good enough, Yuvraj doesn't deserve to be clubbed with Azharuddin. Even Harvinder Singh doesn't.

On account of his matchfixing, yes, he shouldn't be compared. On account of proven abilities and a decent record...well it still can't be denied unfortunately. At 39 when he played his last test, he was fitter than the whole current team put together. When I think of Azza, I kind of blank my mind post 1996. I prefer to only think of him before that when he was still a magician with his heart in the right place.

Not saying much is it? A acid injected obese guinea pig would be fitter than this team.Batman wrote:At 39 when he played his last test, he was fitter than the whole current team put together.
Fair enough about the rest, I personally don't do that.

No man. He was pretty superfit. He took his fitness very seriously and was a fitness freak. That last 100 he scored off SA was worth going miles to watch. He wasn't dodged by issues that dog SRT now or Dravid a series back. He was in fine nick and accumulating runs at will. Shame he was neck deep in shit though....

Aye, his fielding and fitness were well ahead of the rest of the team then, That was just a half arsed comment about the current side. Though some of the younger ones are good fitness wise.

Jadeja was good though how much he dropped for money is frustrating to consider. Surprising thing was guys like Robin Singh and Sidhu because better fielders with age in their mid 30s. Complete contrast to our 'young' lads who break down every series and half. These guys are from Kambli school of excesses. A couple of successes gets to their heads and stomachs. IPL will probably finish career spans by half as more guys break down to wear and tear and burn out faster.

Did anyone say he was a great test player. A good player yes, but not great. Because he was never good on juicy wickets of Aus, SA, Zim and WI. he had done well only in NZ and Eng outside the subcon. If you look at that period of 1996-99 he has done well in sub-continent tests. Those back to back runs against SA at home and runs against Lanka at home and away. He scored a breathtaking 100 with SRT in that second test in SA but overall was quite bad hitting out and getting out cheap for most on that SA tour away. He did well again in SL's featherbeds but was crap again in WI 5 tests batting irresponsibly again [for fixing or ineptness God knows] and was dropped if you remember. The only exception perhaps was the home tests against Pak where all played well below par under pressure [except SRT at Chennai]. He was out of NZ tests at home and the Aus whitewash down under due to SRT keeping him punished and out of team and forced his way back with that second SA test after which matchfixing finally finished him. Thing is he was batting as well as ever in familiar conditions and was fielding and running between wickets well enough as ever. There was nothing different about his batting in and outside the sub-continent out of the script than his career had followed. And nothing to suggest he was uncomfortable at crease either. Fitness wasn't an issue. His pathetic record on good lively wickets outside India was. His record of last 2 years took a thrashing majorly due to his inability to face quality bowling over quality wickets over 8 tests against SA and WI and was his won't he didn't get enough chances at home to make up for it due to SRT blocking him for Badani and co..

He was in familiar batting conditions. And true to his career path he was still crap outside it. More to the point I was talking about his batting in his last test before the scandal claimed him. When he played that last innings, he was def still in good touch and was scoring runs at will just like he had against the same opposition in Eden and Kanpur a couple of seasons ahead. That 100 was as wristy and golden as ever without looking a bit out of place. He had played domestic cricket and scored very well enough to force selectors to override SRT and re-induct him in the squad again. He missed the first test to a hand injury but came blazing back in the final test. And then history claimed him.

Re: Yuvraj Singh diagnosed with cancer
err his last test was in 2000, where he made a century after a couple of years. he made centuries against south africa 4 years prior to that in 1996. they were fantastic centuries indeed, but 4 years is a long time ago
when he was dropped he was not really a productive batsman for a few years, save for what turned out to be his last test innings

Like I pointed out, he had an average Pak series in 1999. Did not play a whole season of 7 tests against NZ and Aus and the first SA test after those Pak-Lanka home/Asian Championship tests once he was out to injury and then SRT made it a point to keep him out. After that it was a straight jump to that last SA test so you can't really consider the season of tests he did not play? I didn't even mention 1998 when he returned as captain. He was in good nick that year in India, and in NZ except that horrid one off in Zim. From 1998 - 2000 he played 11 tests after discounting one washed out test in NZ. He scored 3 100s and 3 50s. He had an average run against Pak but was consistent overall. And he wasn't getting bowled out a lot too. Just twice in that whole period. Add a whole year of missing tests and there is not much to left to judge with a fine comb.
Azza was frustrating in that extreme wicked way. He was absolutely top when in flow and when the wrists rolled the magic or absolutely crappy and rock bottom when he struggled. Never a balance there. Just not consistent enough. Either too high a tide or too low.
