I know someone who asked for socks for Christmas - he ended up with 28 pairs!

Why are socks only ever sold in pairs?

Its not like you have specialised right socks and left socks. Nor do they ever fail in a synchronised fashion. Only an interested observer would notice if you are wearing unmatching socks (unless you are wearing shorts).
