Cummins out for the season......again
Apologies if this is a case of NTR-
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/cummins-out-for-the-season-20121102-28ok6.html
TEENAGE pace sensation Pat Cummins is facing another summer on the sidelines after being diagnosed with a bone stress injury of the lower back on Friday.
Cummins was sent for scans upon his arrival in Australia on Tuesday after complaining of back soreness following the Sydney Sixers' Champions League triumph earlier this week.
It continues the 19-year-old's terrible run with injury and comes after he missed the entire summer last season due to a heel injury.
The latest injury is to a different part of Cummins's back, which he hurt two years ago after the Shield final for NSW, but he is expected to make a full recovery.

Cummins hurt his side during Australia's ODI tour of England earlier this year but made a strong return for country and franchise during the World Twenty20 and the Champions League.
"Pat Cummins returned from Champions League Twenty20 duties with the Sydney Sixers with some back soreness," said Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris.
“Because of his age and past history we decided to investigate the source of the pain and unfortunately he has an early stage stress fracture of his spine, confirmed by scans today.
“Pat had a spine bone stress injury a few years ago but the current injury is new and in an entirely different part of the spine.
"We expect he will recover fully from this injury and will be closely monitored to determine his return to the playing field, but expect that he will miss most of the 2012-13 domestic cricket season."

From the CA website in a rare moment of not being crashed:
Australia could be without Ricky Ponting for the first Test against South Africa, starting in Brisbane next Friday after the former skipper was forced pull out of a Sheffield Shield match for Tasmania with hamstring soreness.
The 37-year-old was dismissed for five on the first day of the match between Tasmania and South Australia at Bellerive Oval and consulted Australian team management after feeling tightness his hamstring.
Cricket Australia released a statement saying Ponting would be rested to give him every chance to be fit for the opening Test against the Proteas.
"This is a precautionary move to ensure Ricky has the best possible preparation for the first Test against South Africa in Brisbane next week," team manager Pat Howard said.
"We've opted to withdraw Ricky from the game. If this wasn't a week out from the first Test then Ricky would continue with the match, but we don't want to take that risk. We expect Ricky to be fit for the first Vodafone Test against South Africa."
Ponting's dismissal on Thursday ended a brief purple patch for the champion batsman, who compiled unbeaten knocks of 162 and 60 against Victoria last week.
He is determined to prove he is far from a spent force and push on to play in back-to-back Ashes series against England in the second half of 2013.

Re: Cummins out for the season......again
Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie were both similarly injury prone at Cummins's age. I suspect the teenage body isn't meant to bowl that quick. I'd actually bring Cummins back slowly and surely through grade cricket next season before allowing him to play any T20.
22 seems to be about the age where a fast bowler's body begins to strengthen and become capable of dealing with the strain of bowling 140kph+.

Well Cricket Australia could have withdrawn any Australian player from the Champions League, but Watson was the only one they pulled out.

I don't get it - people are saying that if he didn't play T20 he wouldn't have got injured? Surely it's better he crocks it now than 4 overs into a Test match?

It's a crying shame for him, he's a top prospect, but it isn't for Aus really - you've got enough fast bowlers who can trouble the SA batsmen.
Re: Cummins out for the season......again
Just stop him going to bloody South Africa. Twice he's gone over there, twice he's injured.

Maybe next time there'll be a press release for when he's fit to play for Australia.

Re: Cummins out for the season......again
Apparently the Sydney Sixers knew before the CL semi final that Cummins was experiencing back-soreness, but the Sixers didn't tell Cricket Australia, who would have almost certainly ordered Cummins home.
The Sixers were apparently angry about being denied the services of Shane Watson, and weren't about to let another key asset go home. Incredibly selfish stuff from Sixers Coach Stuart Clark (who should know better) and the Sixers management if true.

What obligation does the Sixers have to CA on this?

Re: Cummins out for the season......again
If they had no obligation at all then Cricket Australia was incredibly stupid to allow ANY potential test players to play in the Champions League.
Of course, they say publicly that test cricket is the number 1 priority, but the fact is they have a significant financial stake in the Champions League, and it's beneficial to them financially if the top players are playing in the tournament.

Is he centrally contracted?
Washing off of responsibility by franchises was a major issue during the England tour in last year. Not much of a difference here.
