Re: Big Bash Thread
disappointing really... thought you would consider and respond in a manner that recognises the parlous state of worrier/jelly cricket and consider the merits of a possible way forward for the worriers/jellies and Oz cricket...

I agree with embee (haven't seen it yet).
I think the D/L system is wrong or how its interpreted. They should HAVE to play for a minimum amount of overs before D/L comes into effect.
Would have flogged them anyway but 2.1 overs is an innings? Get sent back to China ya damn plastic.

Blame your stoopid Wozzies, bg. If they had've made a bit more than 69 then the 5 over target would've been considerably more than 29. What an embarrassing effort.

I know it was 10 minutes ago which may be a life time for an iGenner's attention span like yours but I clearly remember mentioning the system itself and not the woeful plastic wozzies.

Re: Big Bash Thread
D/L is as good as we can get to decide rain affected games (when we all know there is no perfect method). It wasn't a 2.1 over game, it was a 5 over game (the minimum for a 20/20). The Viles got the runs in 2.1 of them.
Read this slowly, as I'm not sure comprehension is one of your stronger traits.

skulls
The target the vomitcomets had to get off 5 overs was 6 ...they already had 29 ...the final ball (and only ball after the rain delay) was a dot ball ...That's a big "WTF was that about?" IMO

Re: Big Bash Thread
Only in the fact that if they had not have faced that one ball, they would not have been validating the 5 over game. The match would've been a NR.
Yeah, I didn't actually know what the 5 over target was - 6 you say? (seems low) - but the dot ball still made sense to me.
Are you arguing that they needn't have bothered coming out for the one ball, as they already had the runs? I don't really care either way, but don't get the confusion of some.

Re: Big Bash Thread
How can you win a game by not scoring?
If you've already passed the score it is game over ...
If they hadnt faced 2 overs and had to score 6 runs in 5 overs ...they would have come off when the score was 6 ...not after 5 overs ...or 2.1 and a dot ball

Simply because at 2 overs from the Vile Stars it wasn't yet a game.

Re: Big Bash Thread
I think the result and the D-L is a sideshow...unforch the bnlg opted to talk about D-L, rather than confront the obvious - which is that the wozzies would now struggle to beat a Banjo grade side in any form of the game...disappointing that the worrier fans here are into avoiding contemplation of the benefits of a two tiered system

Re: Big Bash Thread
Hartley hits a four off the last ball to win the game.
How good is the Big Bash League?
Answer - Even better than the IPL.
How good is the Big Bash League?

19.6
Putland to Hartley,
FOUR,
Is that a tie? They run three off the last ball, but did it hit the
boundary? Here's what happened... full toss again, Hartley carves with
all his might over the men inside the ring in the covers. Ferguson had
a lot of room to cover from deep backward point. He had to put in a
dive and drag the ball in. It's a matter of inches. He hurls the ball
back to the keeper as the batsmen complete three. And then we see the
replays... The ball touched the rope before Ferguson could drag it back
in! How dramatic is that... He looks distraught as he realizes what
happened. The Adelaide support staff looks deflated too, and the crowd
goes into a collective hush. A typically madcap T20 game, with all
results possible going into the last ball. Brisbane Heat have pulled
through, only just. Heartbreak for Adelaide Strikers' Johan Botha has a
wry smile on. That's all from us for this game. Cheers and see you
around.

"See you around" (cricinfo - ?, quoted by WWW) reminds me of the old rejoinder:

most of the wickets came with balls tossed up at under 130ks...the batsmen were mainly frightened West Australians and the worrier team is coached by the bnlg...so the performance has to be discounted somewhat

I was "lolling" at the images such figures create of the batsmen's capabilities to hit the ball cleanly (or at all), rather than at Malinga's prowess at slinging the thing in.
( The second, if it happened, would be more a WOW! than a LOL! )
