Always thought the Dee's utility player called Matthew Bate was getting into dangerous territory, especially with the sort of commentary teams we have.

Re: Most ridiculous names
'Brad Dick' is problematic enough, but compared with his uncle who played half a season with Essendon in the early 90s he did OK - the uncle's first name was Willie (no I didn't make that up!)
The dreaded Rex Hunt (one of prob not many blokes whose name is rhyming slang for himself) commentated WD's first game, had a bet with his fellow commentator 'Shut-up' Shane Healy that he could get through the match without making any smart-arse comment about the name, which he lost - before WD got off the interchange bench.
And then there was that weightlifter from the 70s, Precious McKenzie....

At least he makes it quite clear what he is, unlike Bob "neither one thing nor the other" Cunis...

Wasn't the Lord's curator also called Mike Hunt?

I think you're right. I worked with a bloke of that name for a year on a project. I struggled not to snigger very day.

Re: Most ridiculous names
When the Natal rugby team got relegated - against expectations - to the Currie Cup B section some years ago, it was captained by former Wallaby Dick Cocks. No doubt his name was on many lips that day...iieee wrote:My great uncle was called Dick Cocks.embee wrote:I played junior footy against Willie Dick
I read parents were prohibited the other day (not sure where) from registering their daughter as Hashtag. Wonder if Semicolon would have been acceptable?

Re: Most ridiculous names
All forms of punctuation are frowned upon.
Nobody is to be called Asterisk. Period.
Shame .... so many possibilities ... Ellipsis Heald, Stop Stopp, Period Piesse.

With General Panic as its last Minister of Defence, it is little wonder Yugoslavia fell apart.

Blimey, that is a double whammy :--O Or is it a triple whammy? :---0
Great, as well? Now that is quite greedy.

That is a clever exception.
As to punctuation disqualifications. ....
De'Ath is always a sinister one, and not just i or yGen.
And you'd have to kick out the first player on Australia's list (and a member of the winning 1930 squad)!
Period ANYTHING would be a bloody curse of a name.

And then there's this bloke....
Pronouncing it like he would, might make it more family-friendly but no less ridiculous.

Maybe Kyle Abbott doesn't sound ridiculous, but unfortunately he's already - by design or accident, called Jimmy by many...
