Dello wrote:Well played, again, Compton. His most impressive innings in an England shirt.
Ironically, it's the innings that has convinced me he's not going to make it in international cricket long-term: he unfurled a bunch of attacking strokes that were pretty ropy in their execution. A lot of balls hit in the air on the off side that on another day would've been snaffled, some very flappy hooks.
You can't argue with the results. I was left questioning his overall quality, though.
Good luck to him.
I'm glad at least one person will stop screaming about Joe Root opening. And mentioning that, at 29, Compton is 'old'. It's a relief.
Although he's now got a Dello note, which is almost as bad as a Trevving.
Compton actually got 'anti-noted' into a couple of centuries.

Oh, NOT going to make it.

England certainly has some grinders in its top three.

Poor them. They could have had Warner, Cowan and Hughes.

Meh, show me a batsman who's made a test hundred, and I'll show you a batsman who's had some luck.

I guess it wasn't even luck. Did Compo actually offer a chance his whole innings? Sure, he hit a few in the air, but he found the gaps. I still think he's finding his feet. The good news is that he's getting better each match.

Chanceless. I don't think there was even a half chance, until he'd got his ton, then there was one two or three balls before he got out. Unless that was Trott. I was in a daze.
Anyway, yes, he hit some in the air. The key to it is, for some reason (as you say), he strangely tried hitting the gaps. Gaps meaning there was no fielder there. I've seen it done by other batsmen before. It's a funny business. It's like they know a fielder isn't in the position they're trying to hit the ball and hence don't mind it being in the air.

I Ron Bellend taught him this?

It's written in Bell's contract that at least once a series, he has to chip a ball softly to short cover. It's right there, written in blood.

How does that work? Root is an untested tyro, and Bairstow's fallibilities against spin are the stuff of legend.
You want to logic-check your posts before you send them in, mate.
Now your turn to do the NSR.

No, he likes to hit the fielder.
Case point: last Test - short extra put in, two balls later, Ronnie Knicks obliges like a smacked up prostitute.

Wasn't my idea - it was Michael Yorkshire's. Along with many other 'experts' who get paid for their opinions.
Re: New Zealand v England, 2nd Test, Wellington, 14-18 March, 2013
For a former England captain (a good one at that), Vuahgan has certainly lost a whole heap of dignity and credibility since he retired.
Does he do anything apart from dance badly, commentate badly, and give shit to the Aussies on Twitter? Right up there with Flintoff for being a massive dick since he hung up the spikes.

My thoughts exactly when I read Dello's curmudgeonly analysis. But you have a way with words. Thanks Dan. (Although the standard derogatory sexual references were strangely absent in this articulation of your laser sharp piece of perception).Brass Monkey wrote:Henry wrote:I guess it wasn't even luck. I haven't seen a bigger publicity whore than Vaughan since Vilks was looking for pos reps.

It's the 2005 Ashes curse. You wait, Simon Jones will be next. And Matthew Hoggard. They'll be prancing around in their tight pants on TV before the year is out. Desperate stuff.

BTW, off topic I know, but this made me chuckle, might post it in the appropriate thread, but late for work, can't be bothered to switch. It is a pictorial prosecution of Twatto
