it's a tough one for india now, Without singh ponting dominated India at home last time but can they afford to play both spinners at perth?

Him getting out ponting so quickly is probably on it's own enough to keep him in the side.

It must be even more galling for Punter knowing that Harbi has collared him as many times as all his 10 team-mates combined.

He's dominated murali of late.

Murali can't really be classed as an off-spinner or a finger spinner. He is more like a wrist spinner and very much in a class of his own (save the chucking discussion for another thread.)

It had been rumoured that Ponting's weakness was against finger spin and I recall he wasn't entirely comfortable against our very own spin-demon Giles.

It does seem strange that such a class batsman plays wrist spin with relative disdain (compared to most non Indian-Subcontinental players) and yet seems to struggle more against the relatively unfashionable finger spin.

I can't recall any other finger spinners who have dominated him though.

Added to that he's a good starter vs singh in one day games.

At this stage it might be a mental block as much as anything, he just can't get a start against him.

Suppose most batsmen have their bogey bowlers, often that bowler will be of the same type as many others, but for some reason that particular one has the wood over a bat.

I think Vettori has had some success against him as well.

A bit but ponting has also dominated vettori in other innings.

It's pretty much one sided vs singh in tests, as doc said some players just have that one bogey player.

Everyone struggled against Bhajji in 01. I think this time Ponting has been done by all the talk of him being Bhajji's bunny more than anything.

I tend to agree doremi. He is now so determined not to get out to Bhajji that he is thrusting hard at the ball (as he did today). He needs to relax, watch the ball, and play it on its merits.
