Ponting has just one unplayable delivery and that is Bhajji's doosra.

he has trouble reading that. Everything else he is comfortable with.

Ponting did struggled against Murali but as other bowlers fed him pies he was able to put up few 50s.

Actually, today Harby got him with a top-spinner. Ponting tried to turn the ball to leg, it went straight on, he closed the face a bit early and got a leading edge to silly point. He is clearly jittery about Bhajji at the moment.

That's about the 4th time this summer than Ponting has fallen to the toppie/doosra.

Strange.

"quite hilarious you have to admit after ponting's 'i'm not his bunny' declaration. i wonder if some hack will ask him the question again. that will really make drunky grumpy"

There's a scene involving a bunny in one of the Monty Python movies, that may well be re-enacted if that happens, with Punter playing the part of the rabbit.

Got to agree here. While Ponting has dominated MuMu in the past (04), he seemed to have more trouble this time. In fact he was the only Aussie batsman who Murali had consistent success against.

All of the truly great batsmen have been excellent players of spin. Ponting is ok against spin in conditions where they don't play that big a role, but on pitches that help the spinners, his record is pretty awful.

It's weird - Ponting plays wrist spin very well.

i too think its mental. he seems to go in 2001 mode whenever he sees harbhajan in a test. launch your foot forward and hang the bat in front. he has played the indian spinners exceptionally well in the odis, maybe because defence is not the first thing on his mind

Ponting just wants to win so much it's hurting his own performance. For all that's been said, he wants to beat Waugh's 16 test win streak to prove himself better . . . and you can't blame him for that.

Gilly as well.

FWIW Ponting's FC record in matches in which Warne played for the opposition is 114 runs (208 balls) @ 57.00

He scored 38 & 20* in one match in 1997/98 and 51 in one match in 2006/07.

I don't know how much of this was to Warne's bowling but looking at the scorecards it probably wasn't much. Warne didn't dismiss him. In those matches Warne bowled 75.3 overs in all and took 4-276.

Bit of a joke really when their FC careers coincided for 14 years.

I thought Brad Young had a lot of success against Punter too.

Anyways, just saw the stat that this is the fifth time Hardy has dismissed Punter first ball.

I mean one bowler getting the same batsman out five times for a duck must be rare, but for a golden duck? That has to be a record of some sort.
