I haven't seen such a selfish pair as these two at the crease for quite some time

Yep, need to step it up.

Uhh, yep. We do need to step it up. I'll paint the picture:
Cook 30(42)
Bell 32(45)
Trott 3(10)
On a shirtfront against a conventional bowling attack. With fielding restrictions for 65% of this innings.

Bell actually has a crappier strike rate than Trott in JAMODIs.

Well done Ronnie - a half ton that showed all the intent of a soggy motorway services sandwich. 70 deliveries - wow - Maggie Thatcher and Ronald Reagan will probably dedicate the Wall Street premiere to him.
Re: England v Australia, ICCCT Match 3, Edgbaston, 8 June, 2013
His partner in dour is doing even better: 15 off 28. This is a real advert for ODI cricket
Re: England v Australia, ICCCT Match 3, Edgbaston, 8 June, 2013
They've managed to make the Edgbaston atmosphere turn into one of a state funeral
Re: England v Australia, ICCCT Match 3, Edgbaston, 8 June, 2013
There's always some on-field issue with Australia, isn't there. So much anger......

It's not all bad - Bell has passed the 100-balls faced mark and he's 79 to his name. So he's improved his career strike rate
Re: England v Australia, ICCCT Match 3, Edgbaston, 8 June, 2013
They need 130 off 16 to post something competitive and still don't change the batting order...

Australia seems to be doing about as well as anticipated.
How long until Watson injures himself bowling, which he wasn't going to do?

Even at this early stage, Cook has to be considered one of the most regimented, by-the-book, boring captains England have ever had. And we actually have a pretty talented team FFS.

Aye, he's 'up' there with the Cowdreys and Boycott as a captain.

And now the steady stream of wickets and struggle to get any momentum in the closing overs comes along...

And now the pressure on the middle order to up the rate is showing. F*cking toss weasels.

I'd be tempted to try someone else as captain for ODI cricket just to see what happens... although I suspect we've got Flower and Gashley pulling the strings and any captain would have little freedom to act differently.

England should get 300 here.

We wouldn't get 300 from here if we loaned you Jade Dernbach to bowl every remaining over.

The pitches in Aus for the World Cup will be just as flat if not flatter as well. The reluctance to move away from plan A is truly frustrating, verging on being downright stubborn.

The only possible justification for sticking with this approach would be if the next World Cup was in England, in early or late season. Everywhere else it's going to be dry, flat pitches where you need to score 300 and make the most of the powerplays.
