Ponting better than SRW?
As a captain? He's equaled the test record and won almost all tourneys and cups. SRW had a better bowling attack so you have to hand it to him for coming this far. I think Ponting is better than SRW.

I thought this was going to be a thread about cheating.

He is a better cheat for sure.
SRW or anyone else is no match to Ponting's skills as far as that goes.

Re: Ponting better than SRW?
I would say he's taken SRW's "Mental Disintegration" in to new level by applying it to the Umpires as well.

An Indian television channel is showing Symonds patting Bucknor on his shoulders after he gave Dravid out.
A new trend in world cricket perhaps. Players congratulating umpires for job well done.

At sooking and being a moronic nutcase and in general being as much like GWB as possible, yes.

Re: Ponting better than SRW?
punter is undoubtedly a better batsman, fielder and captain than K snr..
however i think Ksnr was a better sook - so much so that it may explain his continuing popularity in and affinity with India

WRT captaincy or almost anything else, in his dreams Ponting can tie Waugh's shoelaces. That's fair.

You're kidding, right?
Ponting inherited a team in transition with it's best bowlers slowly fading . . . Dizzy, Pidge and Warnie. Look how he has worked to fit new players intot his team and how well he backs them in the field. I bet Symmonds, Clark, Huss, Jaques, Midge etc would kill for Punter.

To paraphrase a recent quote that grabbed some attention - "my daughter could have done the same job"
Ponting's only significant impact as a captain was to lose the '05 Ashes.

agreed tac...many players in the stronger Ksnr team were bled on the sacrifical altar of chasing quick runs while the most selfish captain in the history of the game since jardine cosseted his own average and standing in the game

Hmmm I think Ponting is underappreciated in all facets of his game. Maybe when he retires he will be appreciated more. He is too divisive at the moment.

That's because they have probably figured out that killing him would be more of a bother.

Furry, you seem like a sensible man, but you really don't know much about cricket.

Was only half listening to the radio the other day but I belive someone said that SRW had been involved in more >25 runs last wicket stands than anyone in the game. I struggle to understand how horrie construes something unworthy in this.

But who scored the runs? who had the majority of the strike? who ended not out?

How does it matter if the team benefits? The strategy is successful.

Re: Ponting better than SRW?
Punter pulled it together very well yesterday, but his captaincy on days 1-4 was not much in the Benaud/Chappell league. He is improving as he grows into the role, but he still seems to be a bit of a menace to society when the red mist comes down. 'Throwing a moral' when that journo asked about integrity shows the same precious petulant streak that made him gob off at Fletcher.
Match-winning move bringing the Spotty Youth on, but it was a bit of a Hail Mary, and how much it was motivated by inspiration, how much by desparation and how much by a wish to get Clarke, who had barely tied his bootlaces right all match, out of his earhole, we'll never know unless Punter tells us.
