Re: Ashes Squad
12 players only? Have I missed something?
With Rhino, Johnson and Watto to burden Siddle's consistency with a proneness either to injury or inaccuracy, I'd have thought they'd need at least one of Hilfenhaus, Starc and McDermott (depending on what is sought) ... but I presume those 12 are just a basis.

Re: Ashes Squad
OK so if 'vast experience' is 50 Tests then Haddin Siddle and Watson's experience (all >45 Tests) is already vast-ish, and will be vast by series end if they hold their spots.beamer wrote:So, 7 over 30s but only two of them with more than 50 caps?Nath wrote:Nath wrote:I notice CA has not listed the players age on this press release
We've got a similar number of older players (KP, Swann, Trott, Bell, Prior, Anderson, Tremlett and Carberry) but only the last two of those don't have vast amounts of Test experience.

Re: Ashes Squad
I wonder if Faulkner may play a decisive role in this series.
He's not fast, but England found his variations (esp the back of the hand deliveries) tricky enough to deal with back in Old Blighty.
And if he gets Aussie pace off the pitch to add to his lateral movement, then like Maurice Tate before him (though 'Bomber' Jardine ignored him in favour of relentless assault, Oldfield made it clear he felt Tate was a cricketing chance missed - the greater pace helped his variations to assume Barnes-type proportions), he may prove a handful for an England batting lineup that has shown itself flaky against any sort of bowling subtlety during recent Tests.
Idle speculation perhaps. But that's part of what forums are for, I suppose. ...

Faulkner looked ordinary when the Test was played like a Test ...when Clarke set up a T20 chase for the pomgolians then Faulkner looked good

Re: Ashes Squad
He did well - he almost certainly saved the match for Australia. But he looked innocuous until we went the tonk, he seemed devoid of any conventional ideas until he was got at.PeterCS wrote:He's not fast, but England found his variations (esp the back of the hand deliveries) tricky enough to deal with back in Old Blighty.

I see MB's said the same thing. That'll teach me to post at the bottom of a page that has spilled onto another one.

He scored 116 in his last Jamodi so the NSP will deem he should take the new ball in Brissie ...taipan wrote:I would guess he will be carrying the drinks.

He seems to be a good T20 bat but Clarke has come out and said he wants to play another five years despite the back problem so Faulkner could open the bowling in tests.

But you must remember the seam movement he produces after the ball has passed the batsman.

Re: Ashes Squad
I don't think he's currently a one of four bowler - I'm not sure his batting will hold up at 7 anyway.
Considering Aus didn't struggle to take wickets, I'd plump for a batsman, myself.

Re: Ashes Squad
Yep 1 batsman, 5 assistants, a keeper and the other 4 bowlers. Watson to help out until he breaks down.
