The Official Anyone But Gilo Thread
No, really - the bloke who poured my last pint tonight would do. He didn't have a clue who Gilo was: so that must qualify him.

He would do, so long as there was no remote family connection to he who must not be named.

Re: The Official Anyone But Gilo Thread
He's nailed on. There's no point fighting it.
A crushingly mediocre cricketer turned coach who owes his entire career to being the default selection in the absence of plainly obvious alternatives, a complete lack of imagination and the innate negativity within the culture that prevents taking a chance on a potentially more skilled but inconsistent option when they can play it safe with a consistently ordinary pick.
He is the epitome of English cricket. It's only right that he should be the one to lead the national team to the bottom of the rankings in all formats.

There has to be someone better though. Julian Clary? Gordon Brown? Bonnie Langford?

Of course there's someone better. But this is the ECB we're talking about. They've continued to employ Kevin Shine as the development bowling coach for seven or eight years, in spite of every young bowler he's worked with getting worse, slower and injured.
They're not looking for "someone better". They're looking for "that'll do. Let's eat."

Raymond Illingworth?
David Lloyd?
Duncan Fletcher?
Peter Moores?
Regrets, we've had a few .... aka The whole of our national sport is not doing very well. We may be under the wrong star sign. Venus may be in juxtaposition with somewhere else.

Any of our resident Yorkies have the inside scoop on Jason Gillespie? Is he rated in t'moors?
Could be a possibility.
It'll be Giles.

Let's stop this thread now. It's getting silly.
The die is cast. It's inevitable. England is fcked for a half-decade.

So that's it then. Giles of a feather, fck up England together.
Following due process. And not biasing the selection procedure in any way.

Giles has the look of the chosen one
Ashley Giles is seemingly team director-in-waiting. And if he is the right man for Alastair Cook then, by default, he is absolutely the right man for English cricket.

Giles Clarke: Ashley Giles "strong candidate" as new sole coach
England will return to having one coach in charge of all international cricket formats with limited-overs coach Ashley Giles a "strong candidate" for the job.
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman Giles Clarke confirmed the move at a media briefing following Andy Flower's resignation as team director. Flower split coaching duties with Giles in 2012 and focused on the Test side.
"We've learned with the dividing roles and think it's better to bring them together," Clarke said. (...)
"Ashley is a very valued employee of the ECB, we all have the highest regard for him both as a man and as a coach. He is a man of great integrity and great capabilities. He played a lot of cricket for England and is very respected in the game."
