Brilliant shot from Tsonga to win the first set.

That's who Tsonga looks like! The great Muhammed Ali!

Yeah, it's a good likeness. And he's steamrolling Youzhny in the 2nd set.

Re: 2008 Australian Tennis Open
Well, I've just returned from a week in Melbourne where I spent five days at the tennis.
It really is a great tournament.
I didn't go to any night sessions so missed out on the string of marathon matches.
Both the mens and womens draws seem to be shaping up nicely.

Tsonga looks the goods. Definetly top 10 material if he can stay fit and focussed. And he does look a lot like a young Mohammad Ali.

There's a 3:1 ratio of good 'totty' in the semis.
Nice.

I don't think JGK has replied since black Tuesday began to unfold. Hope the poor bugger hasn't topped himself. I was nearly going to start a thread called "JGK watch". Market clawed back more than half it's loss yesterday.Paul Keating wrote:Hey JGK,

how may i ask? certainly women's cricket has little takers. but women's tennis is pretty popular and has huge supporters globally.
sania is the most talented singles player in india and a superstar. how can she not be the elite, atleast a sporting elite?
when i used "elite", i was talking about top players in the wta tour anyway.
another name to watch for yuki bhambri in men's. i have not looked at his game. but he is in the quarters of juniors at the moment. he won the asia oceania juniors which included australia's hyped bernard tomic.

Hey everybody, look at TO being all heroic and unPC. And be suitably impressed.

Even worse - I spent the last two days in Melbourne
But yes. Actually, if there is a word worse than slaughtered then that's me - have seen probably half my net wealth disappear in the month.
Oh well, easy come, easy go.

Re: 2008 Australian Tennis Open
Back to the ranking issue - if Fed had lost tonight and Rafa gone on the win the tournament, Fed would have lost the No 1 ranking despite having had appeared in 10 of the last 11 GS finals.
All I can say is that there is something wrong with the ranking system in that case.

Re: 2008 Australian Tennis Open
The first time I saw Ivanevic play, was against Sharapova in the French Topen last year.
Let's hope they play again. It will be the most beautiful match of all time.

Letters to the Editor in today's SMH
A thought crossed my mind as I watched Maria Sharapova the other night: "I'll have what she's having."
Lee Borkman Menangle
I find Maria Sharapova's screams on the tennis court quite erotic. Is this the intention?

Re: 2008 Australian Tennis Open
Another india vs aus clash tomorrow. Yuki, the future hope for indian men's tennis meets the hope of australia, Bernard Tomic in the junior SF. Tomic(5) took care of the top seed while yuki( 8 ) beat the third seed.
Both are only 15! There is another 15 year old american in the mix making 3 15 year olds in the semis. Looks like being a year or two older is of no advantage!
