Re: American Football Thread
Yeah, Mahomes has been a bit below par recently, maybe the 2 weeks off will help him but there’s a lot of banana skins there for them.
The NFC champions should be doormats for whoever wins from the other side, but then again you wouldn’t bet too much against Brady or Rodgers in a one-off showdown.

In fact, the “weak” NFC play-off field probably includes four banker Hall of Fame QBs.

Good point. They should just take out the qb.

I reckon the Rams and Browns are a chance.

Re: American Football Thread
The Rams shouldn’t have a chance as they don’t have an offense, but we’ve seen a fair few anaemic Packers performances in the post-season in recent years. Teams with a bye are sometimes caught cold in this round, though Rodgers and Mahomes are the two players you’d most want if you had to turn around an early deficit.
I can see Brady getting the better of Brees in the zimmer frame bowl, and fancy the greater experience of Baltimore to shut down the free-flowing Bills.

Re: American Football Thread
So, the big news is whether Mahomes is going to be fit for the Conference game against the Bills.
Either way, we'll have an old dog v young gun in the final. Have a feeling that freaking Brady might get to the SB.

KC were even worse in the first half this year than last year.
The odds on Gronk for the first two TDs would have been pretty good.

They didn't have as good a roster as TB have.

Well, they did have quite a few opt outs, and have been lacking in the receiving department for a while... but if they’d held onto Brady I expect they’d have made the championship game at least.JGK wrote:beamer wrote:I wonder if Belichick and Kraft have any regrets?

That was a Masterpiece by the TB defensive coordinator.
Brady now has the more SB wins than any individual NFL franchise.

Re: American Football Thread
He’s a greater natural talent than Brady, just as Peyton Manning was. But Brady just has that aura, that will to win, that puts him miles out in front of anyone else. I don’t think Manning, Rodgers or anyone else would have won seven even if they had hand-picked their rosters like a fantasy football team with no budget restriction.Bradman wrote:Rodgers was always s superior quarterback playing behhind inferior teams.
QBs are measured on their trophy cabinet, unlike other positions where you can have a Hall of Fame career stuck on a terrible team. I know, as is often pointed out, that theory would make Trent Dilfer better than Dan Marino... but getting over that line is a big part of it, and there’s a generation of great QBs who will end with one or two rings and feel slightly unfulfilled, and it’s pretty much all down to one man really.
