Re: American Football Thread
Even more unbelievable is that Zach Wilson stepped in and won the game for them. Might be the stroke of luck he needs to revive his career, anyway… either that or they’ll get really desperate and sign Carson Wentz.WideWally wrote:So, the New York Jets star signing Aaron Rodgers plays his first game for them. On the 4th snap, he is sacked, has trouble standing, leaves the field & has a suspected torn Achilles. At his age, that might be the end of his season & possibly career. great buy!

I thought the win by the Jets was more the result of Josh Allen having a shocker.

Well yeah, looking at the report Wilson didn’t do a lot positive, it was as you say plus good defense, running game and special teams from the Jets, including a walk-off OT punt return TD.WideWally wrote:I thought the win by the Jets was more the result of Josh Allen having a shocker.
Seems that once again, they have everything except a QB!

Wilson only has to be about 10% better than last year and the Jets will go close to the playoffs even without Rogers.
Tough comp to pick this year. KC obviously most likely because of Mahomes but if Dallas win, I will win a tidy some.

Re: American Football Thread
They were “close to the playoffs” last season despite replacement-level QB play. Rodgers was brought in to win the Super Bowl, whether he was still capable of doing so we’ll never know, unless he comes storming back next year. They have a lot of young talent after they aced last year’s draft, so their success window is potentially quite a wide one, but in a stacked AFC they’re not going to be serious contenders unless they can at least find a QB solution above what they used to call the “Dalton Line” (i.e. league-average starter level).JGK wrote:Wilson only has to be about 10% better than last year and the Jets will go close to the playoffs even without Rogers.

Re: American Football Thread
As I say, a modestly improved Wilson might be enough.

Not for their actual goal, which is to win the whole thing, though…JGK wrote:As I say, a modestly improved Wilson might be enough.

Re: American Football Thread
Controversial end to today's NFL game between Dallas Cowboys & Detriot Lions. Dallas were leading 20 - 13 when Detroit scored a touchdown taking the score to 20 -19 with 23 seconds left. Instead of kicking the goal to tie it up, Detroit tried for a 2 point conversion.
QB Jarod Goff threw a pass which was caught by offensive lineman Taylor Decker. But a flag was thrown & the completion denied. "As an offensive lineman, you have to report to the referee in order to catch a pass on any given play. The referees claimed that Decker didn't report" However, all videos seem to suggest that #68 Decker had actually reported & not #70 Skipper who the referee claims reported. Decker claims he reported & Skipper says he didn't say a word to the ref. It should also be noted that the ref had told Dallas that #70 was eligible so their defence was not considering Decker to be an eligible receiver. The play was completely altered by that instruction.

Re: American Football Thread
looks like a stuff up by the refsÂ
70 covered by 2 others ....
68 uncoveredÂ
( eligible receivers have to be in the back field or the end player on their side on the line of scrimmage )Â
( if you dont have a receivers number you have to report as eligible ....50 to 79 and 90 to 99 are not receivers )

Ah no. I see defender Jesse Williams won a SB with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013, even though he sat out the game with a knee injury.
