Hird evidently is delighted by this news.
Interesting to note that guys like Ablett sen. and Carey are not currently legends because of the controversy which has dogged them off-field.

Re: AFL 2017
The AFL line is, they've been inviting past winners to present since inaugural winner Wayne Harmes presented Byron Pickett with his in 2004 (I'll take their word for it, I saw the game from go to whoa but don't remember that). But check out the Pinko maths: if that had been followed religiously KB would have presented to Judd, Doully to Embley, Rioli (who was still alive then) to Stevie J, and so on, till Paul Dear presents last year and Peter Matera this year. Obv not all 20 different Norm Smith Medallists between Harmes and Hird (Ayres and McLeod doubling up) have presented at the total of 13 Grand Finals since 2004. So who 'missed out' by whatever criteria waved Jimbo through?

Re: AFL 2017
The AFL is shitting themselves because Hird tried to top himself and he was one of the casualties of the Essendon drugs scandal which the AFL lost control
I have no sympathy for Hird in the scandal
The AFL is back in damage control mode and sweeping aside Hird's atrocities to put him front and centre at the GF is just part of their "look ...a bear" approach to the matter ...If he does top himself now they can say they tried to bring him back to the AFL community blah blah blah

Appalling decision. The Hird will be reviled and booed by the crowd. Why not get someone more popular like EricaNazi to present the medal.

Was thinking more along the lines of 'night Grand Final in 2018' but it looks like you were right....bit of a waste of a good diversion all the same

Could it have been only last week Lethers was employee of the month after leading the Fahoor story for the AFL? Another shooting star has what Air Safety investigators call 'traumatic interface with the ground'...

Re: AFL 2017
McLachlan's press conference didn't say much (haven't been following the saga) but oft touted the character and integrity of the two officials in coming forward and falling on their swords.
The little bit he did say mentioned improprieties with AFL chickies and respect for the families of the two, chock full of character and integrity, philandering qunts.

Weird times that philandering has become a sackable offence.
It's like a couple of happily ex Ms Horace's are now in charge of public morals.

I just assumed they were married. Maybe it was unwelcome advances by a couple of bachelors.

Interestingly though, they insisted that there were no complaints from the other parties, so if they were sacked because of the integrity of the men involved, surely the integrity of the female staffers would be in question too.
The men betrayed their partners, but the women knowingly fornicated with men they would have known were married. It has been implied the relationships were consensual so this appears to be the case. These men are public figures, especially SL.
Maybe sleeping with someone to gain advantage is not a breech of integrity.

You could be right about the standards involved but in the current climate there's no way they would sanction the chicks regardless of their culpability.

Where are the feminists standing up for these poor blokes?
If the rooting was between consenting adults then having the men disgraced implies the chicks really didnt know what they were doing

Spot on embee. Women should be encouraged to leave as well.
Ludicrous really.
McLaughlin should go for the Hird invite.
