You don't need to hire a spin bowler as a consultant to cure the problem. You need to hire a lot of them to bowl at them and an adept player of spin to help.

But who to pick?? The best recently retired player of spin would be Michael Clarke, but most in CA establishment seem to hate him, as do many of the players. Punter hardly has a pedigree. MEW??
Or is Hick meant to be IT??

Martyn or Lehmann himself. Perhaps even Katich.

"Khawaja's early departure for the training camp in Dubai comes as Australia seek a way to turn around his form in Asia: in four Tests in Asia (all in Sri Lanka) he has 115 runs at 19.16, while across all nine first-class games he has played in Asia he has 389 runs at 32.41. Matt Renshaw, Nathan Lyon, Steve O'Keefe, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Swepson and Jackson Bird will join Khawaja in the early departure."

I hope it works.
They'd be better off farking Stoinis off from the ODI squad & playing Bird after his success the last time he played in NZ. He is only an outside chance of playing in India afterall.
Re: Australian squad to tour India - who should go?
No point in playing tweet in nz....needs practice on slow low wickets where he may have success rather than seaming tracks.

Boof touts Head
"Travis Head was overlooked for Australia’s tour of India but a Test call-up remains on the cards for the young batsman.
It won’t happen during the four-Test series that starts in Pune on February 23, barring any injuries to the current squad.
It could happen later this year in Bangladesh or even next summer’s Ashes; South Australia’s skipper has every right to feel bullish about his hopes of donning a baggy green.
“He’s impressed us immensely with the way he’s adapted to international cricket,” national coach Darren Lehmann said in Hamilton.
“We expect him in the not-too-distant future to get his chance in Test cricket.”
Head was arguably the most unlucky name absent from the 16-man touring party for India.
...
“It was a really tight call,” Lehmann said.
“Obviously he’s done really well in the one-day series for us. His bowling has gone through the roof, so really pleased for him there and he batted really well again (in Sunday’s ODI series decider against New Zealand)."
-----------------------------------------
And yet ferkin Jelly and SOK got picked, FFS. Head would probably be equally as incisive with his left arm rollers as those two. Idiotic non-selection.

agree....i keep forgetting that Jelly is on the tour and when I remember I remain puzzled as to the rationale for his selection.

Aye. Given the skinniness of our batting in the selected squad, Head was an easy and logical selection over Jelly.

Are you suggesting our NSP would make him bowl with the wrong arm?

Surely they're going to play Marsh at six. We're probably not going to get twenty wickets with seven bowlers in the side so why bother with four and a half?

Perzackerly Q, which makes the original selection of Jelly ridiculous.

Re: Australian squad to tour India - who should go?
Looking at Oz spin performances in India and that only Benaud and Mallett can claim successful tours I dont see why we are bothering with our multiple spin option attack
especially as they are all shit or inexperienced

Ahh! Good point about the spinners. Maybe we just go really outside the box and load with pace and seam.

I have been saying this for years. Spin does not win you tests in India.

I think the time we looked like or won a series Warnie was not insignificant but didn't really do anything special, and that was Warnie. Plus Ricky did the world a favour and got injured so we had a decent captain for once.

punters captaincy wasnt the big problem in india

We last won in India in 2004/05. Violet took 27 wkts, Harby 21. But our quicks carried us to a 2-1 win with Dizzy taking 20 @ 16.15, Pidg 14 @ 25.42, & Kaspa 9 @ 28.33. Warnie chipped in with 14 @ 30.07. Dizzy was very much the unsung hero. Marto and Pup each scored 400+ runs.
We should've won the series 3-0 after Pup took 6-9 in T4, but we somehow contrived to fail to chase a lousy 107 (we got 93).

Ricky got better unfortunately.
