He does have a Test 170 to his name; I really don't think he can be called a tailender.
Anderson is the only genuine tailender in the Poms outfit; everyone else should be able to handle themselves, including the occasional bouncer, at Test level.
I was at the ground, and there were very few genuine bouncers bowled, at anyone on either side, let alone either tail.

Indeed he was. Would the Pomgolians prefer he he complained about the ball Anderson threw at him?

Was listening to the news on the radio on the way home this arvo (not long in the door) and had to chuckle at the alleged shitfight between Eng and Aus.
FFS, it's the Ashes, of course things should be feisty!!!
But LOL at Jimmeh for claiming Aus are bullies. He is England's no. 1 bully, with a mouth that never quits.
Bring on tomorrow!!!

He had a shocker tour here last time. One thing that is different is that there are fewer creeps like Chinhead and Prior and without KP they have no-one to blame.
Still think they have a great chance in this Test. Seasick aside our batting is average and fielding worse.

Indeed, h.
England's batting is no worse than Aus's, and if Jimmeh and Sturat fire and Tweek doesn't, it could easily be 1-1 and the series will have a totally different complexion.
I'd like to think Aus won't gripe as much as England has, though.

That news conference was f*cking hysterical, would have been far weirder is Smith had managed to sit there with a straight face.lardbucket wrote:JGK wrote:Geez the Poms aren't half protesting too much about the T1 sledging. A sure fire way to guarantee more of it.
They're also apparently upset that Smith was amused by Bancroft's wacky response to being interrogated about the alleged headbutt ... apparently he should not have been amused. A bit hard not to be; Bangers was so refreshingly unpractised and awkward.
Actually find this Aus team on the whole to be rather likeable, particularly when compared to previous teams over the last 20 odd years.
England on the other hand are an embarrassment, the Aussies seem to have got under their skin by doing essentially nothing, god knows how this team would have coped with previous Aus teams.

It is strange how the Pomgolians have so quickly gone 'the whinge'.
Root accused Seasick of mocking the Pomgolians when he laughed at Bangers account of the Bairstow head job.
I'm no fan of Seasick, but his conduct in this event is beyond criticism.

Indeed Horrie, pathetic from Root really. I think Bancroft handled it well, totally de-escalated the story and provided a bit of humour with it.
Making light of the situation probably did Root and co a favour, the Aussies could quite easily have made a meal of it. Root has repaid them by having a pretty undignified whinge.

Sturat hasn't been the same since Varun Aaron squeezed a bouncer through his grill in the 4th Test Eng v India at Old Trafford in 2014. He suffered a broken nose and torn heart muscle.

Yeah, these days he just steps back and has a slog, either gets out straight away or smashes a quick 30 or so. A bit like how Darren Gough used to bat.skully wrote:lardbucket wrote:horace wrote:On their last 0-5 tour here, Malfoy distinguished himself by playing the quicks from square leg.

He looked like being a decent number 8 at the very least in his younger days, even if that 170 was something of an anomaly in what was, you have to say, a pretty strange series. But his batting decline started before that time he got hit. The England management could have told him to knuckle down and sort his batting out, but the truth is we haven’t really needed it since the current crop of all-rounders emerged. Until now, that is, with Stokes absent and the balance of the side rather different.

Aye beams. I always looked on him as someone who was very capable of knocking up a very annoying 40 to 60 in quick time.
These days he is a shell of that batsman.

Re: Australia v England, 2nd Test, Adelaide, 2-6 December, 2017
God, we're only one Test into the series and already whinging about sledging and bowling rude bouncers at our wittle snowflakes.
Who's going to be the first to retire mid-series and f*ck off home because it's all gotten a bit difficult? Tight call between Cook and Anderson, I reckon.
There's no way England will fight back in this series. They were beaten before they even landed in Oz.
On a separate issue, it looks like Moeen won't be able to bowl and we'll play without a spinner. Because the only other spinner they've included in the squad, they don't trust to play an actual game. What a pathetic state of affairs.
It'll be hilarious if Lyon bowls Australia to victory...

Like beams says, Broad's batting had become cameo-centric for some time before it really shit the bed, but getting nailed in the face absolutely did for his mentality. He's shown no sign of getting over the fear of getting hit again.

Quite remarkable that a country that once churned out world class offies like they churned out shit cars in the 70s, can now not produce any spinner of quality other than a Musi part-timer.
To go into Adelaide with no spinner would be criminal. The quicks may well have most of the say, but spinners always get a few on the Autobahn.

Radar looks a little sketchy with squalls scudding off the sea.
Hopefully it improves before 2.30 this arvo.

In other news, it appears Craig Overton may get a run along side or ahead of Jake Ball.

Re: Australia v England, 2nd Test, Adelaide, 2-6 December, 2017
We haven’t had a spinner of note in over 30 years other than Swann. A few had their moments, Tufnell, Emburey etc. but they all ended up averaging closer to 40 than 30.
If we’d taken Dawson or Batty it wouldn’t exactly have helped our cause (though Rashid’s pigeonholing as a white ball specialist is puzzling given the alternatives). Though why we took a youngster to carry the drinks if we don’t trust him to play is anyone’s guess.

Maybe Root will bowl 20 overs of his round arm "off spin".

Overton for Ball won't make much difference in the innocuous fourth seamer stakes, but I could definitely see England persuading themselves that he'll bolster their lower order batting.
Overton's scores so far on tour: 0, 0, 0.
