If Thiem loses another final to go 0-3 he will be getting an unwanted tag as Murray did... unfair as it might be given playing Nadal at Roland Garros is unwinnable unless he gets injured, and the same can almost be said of facing Djokovic in Melbourne. It will have a psychological effect going forwards anyway.

Anyway, I think Federer stays on 20 Slams, Nadal gets to 23 (four more French) and Djokovic at least 25.

By the way, there’s now no male player under 30 with a Slam title to his name. 30 used to be well past it in men’s singles tennis...

Yeah, you’re right, one-time winners Cilic and Del Potro are both 31 now. I thought one or both of those were born in 1989, knowing no player born in the 90s has yet won one.

The only other active players to have won a major, I believe, are Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray and Wawrinka, with a mere 61 titles between them and counting! Djokovic the youngest of them at 32.

Cilic was the last new name on the roll of honour, back in 2014. There have been ten first-time champions in the women’s game since then, by comparison.

Thiem has the chance to sweep away all this history tomorrow...

Make that eleven first-time women’s champions since the men last produced one. Only four of them so far have gone on to win a second.

This will be the one that got away for Barty. Well done Kenin though, she is a competitor.

And will probably be forgotten in a year’s time like most of the others who came from nowhere to win one.

I reckon she’s got more in her.

If Kenin wins as many as Henin she’ll have had a good career...
