Batted, Schagne. Now, can Smith join him with his first in a while?

And he does, though a few wickets falling at the other end. Prabath any relation to Sanath?

Been out this evening.
Nice to see tons from Shrapnel and Smudge. Head and Green both appeared to miss straight breaks.
Still, 5-298 is a very sound position at Stumps on Day 1.

Yeah, he clearly gave the benefit of doubt to the bowler and got lucky with half a wall in line as it struck Green's pad.

He's copped a couple of dodgy decisions, more than usual, in this first part of his career ... and a couple of brilliant balls. Hopefully he will get lucky at some stage.

Why did Smith fly off? Why was there no second look from the umpires? Swepson looked not out on review.
Ramesh Mendis has been terrible. Bad ball every over or so.

We need some breakthroughs early to avoid a 1st innings deficit.

Will the Australian team be able to get home?

Our 5-35 collapse from 5-329 is looking extremely profligate atm.
SL 4-354.

A couple of late wickets helps but Aus is behind the 8-ball.
60-odd behind, we will need to clean up quick to stem the bleeding then bat long in I2.

Boats from Sri Lanka to Australia get turned around by our navy. So that won't work.

Geez this has been a lazy and arrogant effort by Oz. Sure, the umpiring has been awful but no excuse for poor batting and illogical bowling changes.
As it is, Lyon could soon become only the 4th player in history to conceded 200 in an innings more than once.

Agree. Very poor discipline with the ball. No brains at all, just attempted brute strength.
Chandimal just loved it.
Now watch us fall in a heap.

Re: Sri Lanka v Australia, 2nd Test, Galle, 8-12 July, 2022
I missed the fact that Chandimal was given not out caught behind by Dharmasena (mentioned by lardy on another medium) when Aus had no reviews left.
From Dickinfo:
"Starc to Chandimal, no run
Massive appeal for caught behind! The Australians are pleading. Starc forgets there's no reviews left. Was short outside off, Chandimal had a waft at it. Will need to see Ultra Edge. And there's a spike."
Chandimal was on was on 30 at the time and Lanka were 4-274. Clearly this "error" has had a significant impact on Aus's current position.
What a shame umpire neutrality/competence is again in question. Then again, Dharmasena was always pretty shit.

Still, not the first time Aus's poor use of referrals has cost us big.
