Re: The IPL thread
Some knock by McCullum. Or is this not the right place to discuss such irrelevant matters.

I think it's only me and TO.
Think again.
And re the opening ceremony, Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy were terrific when they started off, you never get the full effect of laser lights, etc, from the TV, so I wouldn't know how they've done there, but seemed good. Also was great to see the captains called to the stage and cheered and then Pawar booed when he came on. Hilarious.

Re: The IPL thread
As for the game, when you're chasing 222 in 20 overs and yopu decide to open with Dravid and Jaffer, you absolutely deserve to lose by actually more than 140 runs. They got off easy because of some late slogging by Praveen Kumar.
Kolkata's bowling line-up looks real good with Umar Gul set to play in the future. Dinda's the 3rd choice seamer for Bengal and was signed up very late because he impressed the 'team management' in the nets and finally displaced RBose from the squad.

Congrats to the IPL on a great start and the best opening ceremony for a major cricket event ever.

Re: The IPL thread
Will the English regret inventing Twenty20 and will they give into India and move their county schedule forward? Makes sense, weather's appalling here, heard one cricketer say (on radio) he'd never played cricket in such cold conditions.

Re: The IPL thread
How come this Bhatia fellow has never played for India? First class average of 46 with the bat and 21 with the ball!!
Surely a better bet than Pathan or any of the other rubbish allrounders India have played.

some players have great stats but never seem to get picked. yashpal singh, badrinath are other examples...FTBs
think someone compiled a list of players with the highest 1st class averages without playing a test and india had something like 8 out of the top 10

Re: The IPL thread
Is Indian domestic cricket at a pretty low standard? It's not as good as county cricket is it?

Re: The IPL thread
There's probably only Australia that's of a higher standard than CC.
And if CC was based on a few massive states rather than loads of counties, it'd be as strong as Aussie state cricket.

I don't think Badrinath is an FTB, and he is unlucky to play in an era where we have had an unnaturally strong middle order. He should have been in the fringes since the last WC, probably should have been picked for the T20 WC as well. His age must have got in the way, also his unglamorous way of batting. Yashpal Singh suffers from playing in a weak team with weak competition.
Rajat Bhatia is not that good a batsman and bowls 'dibbly doobly' stuff. Won't get him many wickets in internationals.

Re: The IPL thread
And the elite league is of quite a decent standard.
The Duleep Trophy should be of a high standard, but less time to practice as a team as also too few games doesn't add to the quality.

Re: The IPL thread
Something I just don't understand about the scoring.
Why has LLL been given 767 points for Sehwag and I've only been given 484?
I've had him since day one and LLL doesn't have him as a Trump Player.
Can anyone explain it (simply) please?
