Ponting - I think Tendy's best days are behind him and he seems to be getting more and more injury-prone. Whereas Ponting seems to be at the top of his game.
Also, Ponting plays for Australia, who over recent years have played more Tests.
What about some of the averages on this list, though ... is any stats-driven forumer prepared to argue that Ponting and Kallis are so far ahead of the other top run-scorers on this list, or that that Steve Waugh was really better than Border, and nearly as good as Gavaskar?
If I had to choose one of those players to score a hundred to save my life, it would be Border - and bollocks to averages.
Exactly.
Would make for an uncomfortable 5 hours waiting for it though. I'd be tempted to pick Lara, hope it was one of his sh!t-hot rather than sh!t days and get the whole thing done and dusted in two and a half hours.
Re: 10 K
Put the blindfold on and wait to see whether the firing squad was firing bullets or 1000 dollar bills? I like it.

If it was my life at stake - I wouldn't give a monkeys about the rate of scoring! And Border was better against top quality quick bowling ( that's bowling at 88+mph with due deference to a different thread)

I was gonna say that they broke the mould the day AB was created, but actually they just stretched it a bit and popped out Boonie as well . . .

Perhaps the best alternative would be to pick Kallis. Tell him to bat for as long as he likes and that if he gets a hundred it will count double towards his career stats...

How much money are you going to put Lara's way first?
Border started his career earlier than Tendy and, therefore, played against better bowlers than him.

Gavaskar - a bit flaky if you ask me. What about that 36* in the 1975 WC off 60 overs. And threatening to take take his players off when he was pissed off at a few umpiring decisions?

You would think someone with the dedication to red ink to bat 60 overs of an ODI for 36* would be the master of the art. But no, it turns out he was an amateur, 16 to SRW's 46.

SRT should retire from odis as his record there will never be matched, especially now t20 is set to take over. he should set out stall for 15k runs and the BCCI should help him achieve this milestone by cutting down the JAMODIS in favour of tests, with bangladesh touring every year.

I totally agree tac. Either of them could have been Ponting's dad, but I guess the retard beat them over the fence.
