Ok, go ahead - list any of your predicitions that proved ridiculously wide of the mark.

Or those that seem sound enough at the time but now just get you laughed at like a loonbag.

My choice... I predicted that Andrew Strauss would never make it in test cricket because he doesn't have enough shots and would be lbw playing accross his pad all the time.

My worst call was that we should play Jamie Dalrymple at 8 in the Ashes 06/7 instead of Giles....

I'd now like to hear yours.... i'm particularly awaiting LLL's KP derision and Dellos continually misplaced love for Saj.

I thought Kumble was going to be laughed out of international cricket within six months of his debut.

I though Ganguly wouldn't last more than a year either (short ball problems).

I'm standing my ground on Mahmood, taking the long view.

I did have a brief period back in the day of thinking that Steve Kirby might be worth a gamble, but I've long since repented that momentary lapse in judgement.

And I suppose it would be fair to say I was one of those clamouring for Ian Bell to be fast-tracked into the Test side - based purely on what I'd seen of him, ability-wise. Wasn't until later that it became abundantly clear that he had all the fight of a moist handkerchief.

What we really need is David Graveney to join up and post.

Then this would be the longest thread since time began.

Yeah. Mine was pretty awful. I thought Pietersen was going to be a superb one-day player but was too much of a leg-side charlie to prosper at Test level. Turns out he could play on the off-side nearly as well and I couldn't have been more wrong.

It was nothing to do with "hate" or "derision" as JKL keeps chuntering. I just didn't think he was good enough for Test cricket. Probably because I'd never seen a player like him before bar King Viv.

Rob S used to go on about how Pietersen would be found at at Test level because, as a tall batsman, he'd be unable to play the short ball.

I didn't follow the rationale behind why a tall guy can't play short bowling, but he was convinced of it.

When Brett Lee pinned him a couple of times at the Oval, I thought about Rob's theory - perhaps he was onto something.

Then after lunch Pietersen stopped trying to get out of the way and just smacked the short balls out of the park and that was the end of that.

I remember Nasser having doubts about KP too - mentioning something how he had a tendency to either get a ton or nothing in county cricket.

Which I thought was a bit weird...

Especially as his FC record at the time (probably still does) had an even split of fifties and hundreds and an average well over 50.

I mean, what else do you want, Nass? Blood?

There you go, I've checked: 34 x 100, 38 x 50 from 123 games.

So that just the 72 games out of 123 where he hasn't scored "nothing".
