Seven blasts in 60 minutes, Bangalore rattled

Bangalore city was struck with seven serial blasts around the busy junctions of the city. Two people are reportedly killed and twenty injured.

Crude bombs were used for the blasts and were triggered by timers. Police has confirmed that nuts and bolts were used for maximum impact. They have found traces of Urea and not Ammonium nitrate which is one of the key components of high intensity blasts. The Chief Minister of Karnataka has called for an emergency cabinet meeting. Centre has ordered a probe into the situation.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil told reporters that Bangalore has been targeted by terrorism, though he did not mention any particular group. He further added that there would bean amendment to the CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) act to provide more security to the IT sector.

Sequence of blasts:

1st blast - 1:20 - Madiwala Bus stop

2nd blast - 1:25 - Mysore Road

3rd blast - 1:40 - Adugudi

4th blast - 2:10 - Koramangla

5th blast - 2:25 - Vittal Mallya Road

6th blast - 2:35 - Langford Town

The blast at Adugudi is reported to have left a crater in the road. Hosur road is a busy road connecting the centre of the city to the suburb.

All the mobile phone networks have been jammed across the Bangalore city. All malls, schools etc have been shut down in the city. Police has requested everyone to maintain calm.

The police has confirmed that the blasts look pre-planed. Following the blasts, all metros have been put on high alert.

This was the time when everyone should've been united BJP is busy blaming central govt for these blasts.

Lordy, remarkable that only 2 poor unfortunates were killed.

The centre needs to get tough with this as opposed to the usual pussy footing and worrying about the vote banks. In this context I am pretty sure BJP will do a much better job. Problem with the Congress is that getting tough means potentially alienating 150 odd million people who could take on the usual siege mentality.

BANGALORE, India, July 25 (UPI) -- A series of low-intensity crude bomb blasts hit India's technology hub of Bangalore Friday, killing and injuring several people.

The Times of India reported at least two died in the blasts in various parts of the southern city and 20 more were wounded. Other reports said one woman was killed.

The Times of India report quoted Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari that there were seven blasts triggered by timers.

The blasts, all occurring in a span of about 60 minutes starting around 1:20 p.m., targeted mostly crowded areas.

Quoting sources at India's Intelligence Bureau, the Times of India said the banned Students Islamic Movement of India and the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba may have had a hand in the attacks. Police sources said the attacks also bore the hallmarks of the Bangladeshi extremist group Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami or HuJi, the report said.

The Press Trust of India reported the crude bombs were concealed near refugee camps and roadside areas. Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said "explosives were used in quantity equal to one to two grenades,"

Bangalore being the Indian Silicon valley and all that has been in the sights of those warped minds for a while with a view to striking India's economic fronts.

Although we're really depressed right now, these blasts will not halt Bangalore's or Bharat's progress. These kind of incidents will only make our people more determined to do good for the country.
