Maybe he just needs another six months to get everything sorted out.

Ah crap..
Well, 'sensible' is probably the word for it. Shame for him, don't think anybody could've worked harder in these two years to make sure they are fit and still he can't play.
Poor bloke, I feel for him, he must be depressed.
Saying that, 'knowing' him he'll find a way to keep playing.

Re: Flintoff out of SL tour
It seems that our great pace attack of 2005 has come to bits. SiJo's finished, Fred might be finished, Harmi's been mentally worn down, there's only that splendid fellow Hoggy left.

Trebor, I wager that by 2009 it'll be the same four boys winning us back the Ashes. You heard it here first.

2009 would be adequate, mid-2008 would be better.

You reckon SiJo can come back? He was such a massive factor in the Ashes win. I think it's more likely to be Fred, Hoggy, SiBo, Broady and Monty in 2009.

Dunno Robby, it sounds the sensible team. However, I've just got this feeling they'll all come back. Ridiculous I know.

What?
Nothing wrong with an action that keeps taking wickets at a miserly rate.
Gawd's sake, stop tampering with bowling actions - if it ain't broke and doing a bloody good job, leave it alone ....
Just invent a new boot that keeps his ankle secure.
He should use the time off to sort out his batting.

Re: Flintoff out of SL tour
He's had two different pairs of boots designed and nothing seems to help. They will make him remodel his action, though I can't see how it'll help personally. As he's said before, he's pigeon-toed a bit and it's quite natural for his foot to be pointing towards fine leg on release. Either way, if it sorts him out - great - I think he'll still be the same old Fred in terms of bowling. Time will tell I suppose...
Re: Flintoff out of SL tour
He really is the new Botham. Let's hope he doesn't spend the last half of his career as a shadow of the star he was.

FFS! Stick ... end ... wrong.
The problem is not with his ability to bowl a decent line and length but with the fact that he turns his ankle over on every delivery. From what I've read (and having watched him bowl on telly), it appears to be this element of his action that caused and is now aggravating the injury.

Re: Flintoff out of SL tour
May not be such a bad thing for the balance of the side in SL if he misses the tests (although thats probably a moronic thing to say given he's our best bowler by a mile)
He would have batted at 6 and been gash.
Of course you can see Rikki being called up for a like for like
Or worse, given its Moores - Robin Martin-Jenkins?

Hmm, I can't decide which is the lesser of those two evils.

Re: Flintoff out of SL tour
Depends if you're on about them batting at 6. RMJ is a sh!tter batsman, but reckon his dobbers will be much less cannon-fodder then Sh!tti Clarke. Oh. My. God. I cannot believe I actually had something serious to say on the subject. English Cricket In Crisis.

FFS - not stick - wrong - end.
Read above - the problem is caused because, on his own admission - he is pigeon toed and the follow through clearly shows his left foot angled awkwardly on delivery impact.
So the ONLY way to remedy that is to make him more open chested on delivery ...
That, in my book, is altering his bowling action.
So what's the alternative you had in mind?
Break the foot, readjust the ankle, re-set then reshape the bowling action?

Aye - those 2 names I put forward were absolutely only in jest.

Re: Flintoff out of SL tour
He was probably going to miss the Sri Lanka tour anyway, but WHAT THE F*CK were they thinking playing him against India yesterday? Why would you risk him doing even more damage to that ankle in a dead rubber twenty20 game? Just stupid, stupid thinking.
The Moores/Collingwood "think" tank is really starting to annoy me.

Oh and good thinking replacing Flintoff with Tremlett in the ODI squad. With a bit of luck, he might go for less than 10 an over in these 50 over matches......

No, AFAIK he and AD were going to look at what they could do in the closed season to "adapt" his bowling action. I don't have the answer ... I'm not a biometrics expert, a bowling coach or a physio. However, I certainly wouldn't advocate major surgery at this stage in his career!!
We could of course leave him as he is and accept that he's only going to be able to manage a very limited bowling workload in future. :?:
