Re: Aus v Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Brisbane, 8-12th Nov
So with 13 straight victories, can we give our own record of 16 a shake?

Sure, the Lankans are not a great batting line-up, but the pitch was flat as the Japanese chick I farked yesterday and Lee had to bowl the Lankans out twice with no break.
A good sign, methinks.

Yes horrie, it was very encouraging. I postured that he may have grown a brain in the wake of Pidgy's retirement. Some more wayward stuff in the 2nd dig but 4-86 is a good return on that road.

Flat pitches and india to come...even if we win i see us drawing a few tests against them.
Still for a team to have streaks of 16 and 13 in the one era is pretty amazing stuff.
Since the 05 ashes we have also won 17 out of the 18 tests, honestly didn't see that coming after that ashes series.

Meh, I'll take him grabbing 4 wickets per innings any day of the week. Look at Gump - he bagged 26 Ashes wickets last summer and his best was 4-72.
Aye full credit to lee, we bag him when he stuffs up but this pitch was dead and he was able to keep getting vital wickets.

Yes, mate, when we are old men sitting on our respective verandahs thinking back to the days of Pidge and Warnie, Gilly and Punter will be a constant joy to us.

My old man used to regale me with stories of Benaud, Davo, Phanto, Simmo. My Mum tells me that my first word as a bub (after the obligatory Mama and Dada) was "Benaud". True story.
But you are right, nothing my old man saw before this era compares.

In some ways this feels like one of the best wins.
In the past couple of years every win had that nagging issue hanging over it and that is the age of the team and how long can they keep going.
All of a sudden from having a team that was nearly all mid 30's we have some young blokes pushing through.

Also crap stories like this that piss me off.
Whats wrong with just enjoying the success while we have it?
Lord knows if we lost this test and murali took 10 for we would have an
extra 35 pages in the thread with "helpful" people pointing out that
australia are screwed without warne and mcgrath.
Australia is killing the game
By Malcolm Conn
THE joy of Australia's utter domination after such a
dramatic loss of star personnel can only magnify concerns about the
state of world cricket.
For the second time in
less than a year, a team has arrived in Australia as the most
credentialled challenger in the game only to be flattened without
landing a glove on the world champion when it really counted.
Even some stubborn resistance from Sri Lanka yesterday on the
rain-marred fourth day of the first Test in Brisbane could not change
the fact that this Test and two-match series has been dying a painful death.

Oh and Clark brought up his 50th test wicket in his 10th test match at an average of 18 and an economy rate of 2.5.
he really has been a massive bonus coming along during this transitional period, now hopefully ponting can read those stats and start giving him the bloody new ball more often.

Re: Aus v Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Brisbane, 8-12th Nov
I agree with the article, but I wouldnt say Sri Lanka were "the most credentialled challenger" to Australia. Their two opening batsmen are past their best, their top batsman was out injured, and they got seduced by the green tinge on the Gabba wicket on the first morning. It also didnt help them that they inexplicably left out their most potent fast bowler and they only had 2 games to adjust to Australian conditions before the first test(Why do touring teams continue to make this mistake?). I think they'll be a better side in Hobart.
Imo, England, South Africa, and India are the three teams most likely to challenge Australia's dominance over the next 2-3 years.
