Can you call for the batting PP before the bowling PP. I would assume that you can.

don't see why you couldn't. what if both captains call for it at the same time, which takes precedence?

If NZ call for it now it might confuse the SL bowling plans.

FWIW Chappelli reckons there's gap in the regs/playing conditions.

Another question. Does the batsman get credited with the runs on a free hit or do they accrue to extras?

As he can be run out on a free hit I'd assume any runs he gets are his.

I might be mistaken but his total doesn't seem to increase after the free hit. I try to keep up with it but they don't always show the batsman's total straight afterwards.

Any runs on a free hit are scored as normal on a no ball (without the no ball penalty ) except byes , wides and leg byes are scored as such rather than as no balls

Any captain may call for a power play at any time after the first mandatory power play ...the batting captain (or batsman) must call it before the umpire is in position and the bowling captain may call it any time before the start of the over .

There is nothing in the rules I can see about simultaneous calling of the power play but I think from memory we were told that if both ask at the same time then the power play is applied against the bowling team
