I cooked a leg of lamb and some shanks (because we haven't pigged out enough this week ) for five hours yesterday - served it for dinner last night with roast potatoes and butternut pumpkin. Very nice.
I'm having lamb and mustard sangers for lunch today.

This sounds REALLY nice. If there are any leftovers you can't fit in, can you put them on here please? Bought a coconut for 19p today. Sawed it in half. Eating one half ourselves. Have hung other half out for the birds. When both halves picked clean plan to make clip clop noise with the shells.
Should be good fun.

How do you open your coconuts? The other day I got one, put it in a carrier bag and smashed it against the wall. Got covered in milk.ever hopeful wrote:Bought a coconut for 19p today. To open the coconut I sawed it all the way round, a bit at a time with a hacksaw. Quite hard work, but opened nice and cleanly. However, have got another one now which, after a specific request from a family member, I am just going to smash!
Good stars tonight where I am. Mild too.

There's a small depression one one end and you stick a screwdriver in it and tap the screwdriver with a hammer. It should split evenly in two.

Is Ray Mears the only pom who knows how to open a coconut?

I just take it in the garden and smash it with a hammer, (not a Siberian hamster, Lardy.) Job done.
Russell Brand is on at this very moment
And, I have a secret crush on Ray Mears.

The damage was done earlier. There was a Liverpool win. The poor thing is knackered now

Re: Things which are of no interest to anyone else
Tapping the small depression with a hammer and screw driver (as suggested by Bradman) did not result in a clean split, although it did make a hole from which to pour out the milk (does anyone LIKE that stuff?)G.Wood wrote:Is Ray Mears the only pom who knows how to open a coconut?
As to Ray Mears, he may well be the only pom who can open a coconut (without a hacksaw or by smashing it) but then we don't get many coconut palms here of course, and they're not in the shops too often either. On the other hand, I CAN skin a rabbit when necessary. Probably not as efficiently as as the boy Mears, I'll admit

I make wontons - using pre bought blocks of pastry - they work well.
