This deserves its own thread, but for the time being I'll put it here.

Re: Flintoff was 'drunk' at practice
Ponting was ordered by Cricket Australia (Or the ACB as it was known then) to front the media and admit that he had a problem, or face a greater punishment than a 3 game ban.
If Ponting and Flintoff have an alcohol problem after a couple of incidents in 1 year of their lives, then pretty much everyone who enjoys a drink between the ages of 18 and 35 has an alcohol problem.

I think that was for Beefy's Birthday, on a boat.. Heard this story from a friend who may or may not have been there at the time!

Re: Flintoff was 'drunk' at practice
Perhaps their drink-related issues go deeper than 'a couple of incidents in 1 year'. Ever think of that? I'm pretty sure CA wouldn't have ordered Capt'n Drunky to go public without a reasonable suspicion that it had been going on for quite some time.Henry wrote:Ponting was ordered by Cricket Australia (Or the ACB as it was known then) to front the media and admit that he had a problem, or face a greater punishment than a 3 game ban.

- It's all a VB plot.
- The Punter and Freddie dolls will be out in time for the 2009 Ashes.
- Cheers.

So I gather from that one comment what you are implying is that everything was ALL Feltch's and/or Gravey's fault ?!
It follows then that you also condone the actions of an immature 29 year old captain of England who acted like a prize irresponsible git - and all because it was Fletchers a/o Graveney's fault.
And it further follows that for him to shed light on it, albeit for coin, is again, Fletchers a/o Graveney's fault.
Poor hard-done-by Freddie ... the whole world is up in arms because he's been exposed by the ex coach of being what everyone knew all along - a great cricketer but a known piss artist who lacked the responsibility and nouse to set a good example to his team mates. A much maligned Jack The Lad ... who looked after his mates (Piles and Jones come to mind) ...
Get real Tom ... the buck has to stop somewhere ... and Flintoff, whether he likes it or not, has to shoulder a shed load of blame.
One good thing might comeof this expose though - he won't ever be considered for the England captaincy again.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Graveney - he is an absolute plonker and I think we're all agreed on that - but apportioning blame to others because your captain is a sot who lacks basic common sense off the field ain't exactly cricket is it?
Something else, which stands out a mile is Fletcher's absolute paranoia about the press - never mind distrust. It's clear that Fletcher wanted to dump Fred as skipper before ther Fredalo incident was afraid of the press reaction FFS! who's running the England set-up?! Happily, we have a new management set-up - well, apart from Grav. who must surely be on borrowed time.

Re: Flintoff was 'drunk' at practice
England have always deferred to the media. Graveney can't help himself from jumping on any kind of passing bandwagon for such and such a player.
Even now - it was obvious Strauss would be dropped from this winter's touring squad, not because he was the worst performer in the last series (that was Ian Bell, of the batsmen), but because he'd had the most muttering in the press about his position.
I think Fletcher was always trying to fight against acceding to the outside influences that his 'superiors' loved to bend over to accommodate.
But, for all the initial success doing things his way - and only his way - brought, his blinkered and somewhat paranoid position alienated too many people in the end.
