The 2010 Olympic Winter Games Thread
Well, it seems that the PC lobby will be disappointed with teh Winter Games after the last-ditch effort to have women's ski jumping included at Vancouver was knocked back by some court in Canada.
IOC President Jacques Rogge is reported as saying 'We did not want the medals to be watered down by too little a pool of very good jumpers'. Which is interesting, given the number of sports over many games where there were very few medal contenders and a lot of also-rans.
Also, what's wrong with allowing a few extra sheilas in at the games because they want a good jump?

They don't seem to have any problem with an entire games where the pool of contenders is confined to those countries with snow.

I'll never forget the day when that Aussie speedskater beat the Korean's and trotted off with the world championship.
I mean he defied all odds didn't he...

When the entire world apart from the precious Winter Olympics lovers thought it was hilarious? He crossed the line, they didn't. Live with it.

Ski Jumping is the hardest winter sport. Should there be ice-knitting for the womenfolk?

Don't think we'll beat the Aussies in the medal table in this version - not interested then

Any competition where you're likely to be beaten by the Swiss is clearly too idiotic for words.

TBH, it's f*cking ironic that a hot country like Aus can beat us in this.

They have more mountains and ski resorts than we do.

Oh right. I thought they were all knuckle-dragging, heat-loving, gotta-squint, Outback dwellers. Must. Buck. Ideas. Up.
Re: The 2010 Olympic Winter Games Thread
Oh you're not wrong there. They just have ski resorts too.

Suppose they just glide on a combination of their knuckles and their webbed bogan feet. That's not Olympic standard. I'm reporting them. The whole country.

Well, the quadrennial spectacle of suicidal tendencies on ice is about to get underway. One of the best things about it is the potential for carnage.
As for the worst? Well, some gold in this link.

I once broke up a fight in my local that erupted over the Curling in the last but one Winter Olympics. No, really!

A Georgian Luge competitor has died in a training accident at Whistler.
Carnage indeed.

Sky News here at night link to one of the US news network in the early hours of the morning. They showed the footage that accident - which I frankly cannot believe and wasn't expecting to see. The man died FFS.

Shoey, it's unforch one of the things about teh winter games, the potential for death. The networks will show it because there's a lot of sad f*cks who think it's exactly what they want to see. Until they see it.

Re: The 2010 Olympic Winter Games Thread
this is a great disappointment, as I had promised a lot of folks that I would be in Vancouver.
But I ran into some hitherto unseen roadblocks which changed my plans.
Vancouver never had a lot of snow, don't know whose hair-brained idea it was to host the winter olympics there. One of my cousins is a copper w/VPD. He is a great guy who was an ex-seal, really great memories of him.
