Re: Football World Cup 2010 Thread (II)
Of course the Portugal result pretty much means the Ivory Coast are gonski for the tournament.
So of the African nations, Cameroon are gone, Saffies, Nigeria, ALgeria and Ivory Coast are just about gone and Ghana are a good chance of going (assuming Serbia beat us and the Germans beat them).

On paper, I'd expect USA to beat Algeria and top the Group with England beating Slovenia but getting 2nd spot behind USA on GD. Is that unreasonable?
And most likely to play Germany...
To be honest, given what's gone before - I'd grab the chance to play Germany in the 2nd round with both hands.

Just about - they need to make up a goal difference of 10 goals in the last roud by thrashing NK and hoping Brazil put a few past Portugal.
It won't happen.

Meanwhile, Chile have picked up 3 yellow cards in the first 25 mins of their game against Switz.
That can't be good for suspensions and they have to play Spain next.

I'd consider "hit the front" a common sporting expression, at least down under.
I can't say that I remember whether American commentators use that phrase or not.

And now one of the Swiss gets a straight red.
That's 6 cards in 30 minutes.

Another yellow for Swiss early in the second. It is NOW 6 cards in the match and amazingly, Swiss are just about level with Serbia for most cards in the tournament.

8 yellows and a straight red in the match!
At this rate the third round of group games are going to be 8 a side.

Chile are a seriously good side. Spain could well be out if they don't raise their game.

Spain or Chile could regret their (so many) missed chances if Switzerland beat Honduras and get into the last 16 through.

The Swiss should account for the Hondurans, and Chile will not be easy for Spain. Spain is on very thin ice.doremi wrote:Spain or Chile could regret their (so many) missed chances if Switzerland beat Honduras and get into the last 16 through.
How many Swiss guys are out of the next match after the cardathon??

Are you a seppo Wally? 'hit the front' WTF?
Are you suggesting that Scotsmen don't use that phrase?
How strange!
It's not like they have much of a need to use it

Sh!t, I take back my comments about Spain. Just saw the highlights of their 2-0 win over Honduras. Geez, they could've won by 12!! Very fluent and pretty stuff to watch.
Thanks, you slack Pomgolians, for the match comments - NOT. I count about 20 posts from Poms since midnight Aus time (that's 3.00 pm English time). And this about a sport you qunts claim to have invented.
Sheesh - most definitely is ABC Mk II these days.

PMSL at the Shaggers on the news.
I've never known a nation to get so excited about a draw.

Why would you use that word? You seem like such a nice fellow and undeserving of such a label.

Ooh, I dunno, Woody. I seem to recall a little nation across the ditch from them getting pretty excited about a 1-1 result v Croatia 4 years ago.G.Wood wrote:PMSL at the Shaggers on the news.

Anywho, good luck to the Snoozers. I hope they do their part in knowcking the salami-eaters out of the comp.

Thanks for the correction, but my point stands. It keeps the Snoozers in the hunt for a Round of 16 berth.
