Well that Pietersen bloke was bloody brilliant again! I'm so glad we picked an out-of-form, recently injured batsman who hasn't scored a Test hundred in nearly a year and a half.

Kamran takes a blinder to get rid of kp and then drops colly next ball.

Bit of an anology of Pakistani cricket, really.JGK wrote:Kamran takes a blinder to get rid of kp and then drops colly next ball.

Morgan in another wacky run out. Hard to believe Akmal's performance again. He takes a blinder and then ****** up a regulation catch. Surely they have someone more than a backstop in the wings somewhere!
Swann now going the tonk but the poms already have enough on the board to stave off any challenge from this batting line-up.

Sure is, since the departure of Arlott and Johnston he remains the unchallenged voice of the English summer. Lots of buses pass Trent Bridge on their way to and from West Bridgford but they're green not red.

Previous lowest score by England v.Pakistan at Trent Bridge - 252-8d in August 1967 - the first Test innings I saw as a spectator!

Broad seems to be batting sensibly again too. At the risk of woofing them both this is the highest partnership for the England 8th wicket v.Pakistan at Trent Bridge beating Ken Barrington & Geoff Arnold's (whose debut match this was) 37 in 1967 in the match mentioned above, all of which I watched - it took twice as long as this partnership has though or maybe it just seemed as if it did.

18 England batsmen have been not out in the nineties, 3 of them at Trent Bridge. Previous instance Andrew Strauss who made 94* at Port Elizabeth in 2004.

Prior follows Morgan in becoming the 9th England batsman to score a century in their debut match v. Pakistan. This is the second instance of two debutants achieving this feat in the same match - the previous instance being at Edgbaston in June 1978 when Clive Radley and Sir Ian Botham both scored centuries (although in the same innings).

Although no side has chased more than 284 succesfully at Trent Bridge (England v. NZ in 2004) it should be noted that New Zealand, although losing, scored 440 in their fourth innings here in 1973 (in a similar time period left to Pakistan) after being bowled out for 97 in their first innings.

That post tea session really killed Pakistan. I still think England had enough at tea but that pretty much demoralised them.
Well played Matty Prior. And once again the Broad/Swann batting ability at the bottom of the order showing its worth allowing Prior to get a ton and put the game out of reach

It was the last-wicket stand with Finn that did the business for Prior. He was 63* when Finn came in and Finn took most of the bowling with Prior taking a single at the beginning of most overs - a reversal of usual practice when a No.11 is in. I agree with what you say about the bowling though. Once again Broad steps up to the plate despite his lack of wickets in the 1st innings as I said he would. Game should be over by tea tomorrow, weather permitting.

Good argument for bringing Prior back for the one-dayers too despite his running between the wickets.

Depends on the tail-enders. Prior said in his post-stumps interview with Sky that the bowlers find it harder to take wickets when the ball goes 'soft'. It is a feature of this game that in all three completed innings the last five wickets have far outscored the first five.

Amazing, Salman Butt continues to look ordinary against England after again bashing the Aussies around.

It was an amazing feat by Australia to lose a Test Match to this collection of no-hopers. One that England will surely replicate before the summer is out.

Pakistan are the archetypal mercurial side . You never know which side is going to turn up, the no-hopers or the brilliant improvisers who can turn a game on its head. The real problem though is with their batting. How they can force out the likes of Younis Khan and Yousuf out of the side, whatever the politics behind it, is beyond me. It would be like the Indian selectors dropping Tendulkar or the Saffies dropping Kallis. Putting 2 novices in at 3 & 4 is just plain bonkers.

Hmm, snoozed off with Eng at 6 for 90 odd thinking if the Paksters could pick up the last 4 quickly they might make it interesting. Seems Prior had other ideas. Well done him.
And a god awful start by the Pakster. All over by Lunch tomorrow.

Two conclusions to be reached here.
a. Without the two Ys the Pakistani batting line-up is below test standard.
b. Kieswetter is in no danger of replacing Prior anytime soon in the test side.
