They're not really a big drawcard as a team, which is extremely surprising considering they're pretty bloody good, have several excellent players, and play an entertaining style of cricket.

it also highlights the issue of the unfair ftp as made by sanga. even jayawardene was saying he has only played 4 tests in aus in his entire career. and here is a man who has played for 14 years
just as an aside, with his last innings sanga now has the highest average for a current test batsman with more than 2000 runs. he has moved past tendulkar

Re: Sanga- Sri Lanka's greatest ever?
Sanga has been selected to play for an Invitational team in the Australian T20 comp next season.
The team is -
Justin Langer - Langa
Daren Ganga - Ganga
Kumar Sangakkara - Sanga
Sherwin Ganga - another Ganga
Andrew Ganz - Kanga
Andrew McDonald - Ranga
Mushfiqar Rahim (wk) - Banga
Wayne Newton - Wanga
Mashrafe Mortaza - another Banga
Josh Mangan - Manga
Wayne Prior - Fanga
Apologies. I'm just trying to pass the time until the first at Goodwood, a 4200m Class 2 Handicap. 4200 metres? FFS

Re: Sanga- Sri Lanka's greatest ever?
Not entirely fair to pin that all on the ECB. Sri Lanka were invited to tour England (OK, for just 2 Tests as replacements for Zimbabwe) in 2009, but their players wanted to take part in the IPL circus and make easy money instead of representing their country in Tests. I think the money-hungry whores do need to be apportioned some of the blame there. The One wrote:lanka have played only 2 tests ... in ... eng ... in the last 5 years ...
with such few opportunities afforded to them by those boards its no surprise they struggle so much overseas. they just dont get a chance to get used to those conditions

Nice effort WW. But a 4200m Class 2? Surely you'd only want to test the best over that distance, or the worst, can't see the point in anything else.WideWally wrote:Sanga has been selected to play for an Invitational team in the Australian T20 comp next season.

so that means england would have afforded them only 2 tests in the last 5 years in the normal course of things. hardly detracts from the main point

They seem to like extreme staying races over there. It will take forever to finish. The action hots up in Race 3, the Group 1 Sussex Stakes over a mile.

Do they?and play an entertaining style of cricket.
I don't think they do. They were good to watch in '90s but not now.

Excellent point.
....... and the team needs another fast bowler.
I'm a bit worried about his health though. Perhaps he could just hang around in the outfield.

I believe you should dispense with Andrew Ganz, given his minimal cricket relevance, and insert Bruce Yardley.
Umpire: Shep and his Overhanga.

Well, I was more referring to Thommo's famous description of his own bowling - "I just shuffle up and go WANG".
