Aye very true.
Some of warne's best spells were when he kept it tight enough for the quciks to clean up at the other end.
Macgill is a one trick pony, he's a strike bowler but a liability in every other way including econ rate.

It was bizarre that Subi wasn't brought back to keep things tight while Midge was bowling so well.

Perhaps Hogg will give Aus that, but it has to be said his FC record is shoite*
* Book him in now for a 30 wicket tour of England in a year and a half
Hogg's FC record in recent seasons has been quite good. He was just a slow learner.

As i've already said, Flintoff wasn't given this leeway on the C4 forum so why should we afford it to Hogg.

I never knocked Flintoff on C4. I hadn't actually seen him in action until 2005.

Re: Worst bowling spells of all time
Maybe it's time Aus took a gamble and brought in a young spinner like Dan Cullen? Hogg is 37 in february and probably only has 18 months left in him. May as well, give Cullen a go and see what he's got. Short term pain for long term gain etc. Hogg may be as fit as a fiddle but no international cricketer in the last 10 years has reached the age of 40*

Stuart Broad's 'spell' of 1-0-36-0 during the T20 world cup was a bit spesh.
Re: Worst bowling spells of all time
Liam Plunkett vs the Windies at Lords this year was pretty dire. So was Harmison, come to that, but Plunkett was especially bad. I would have been embrassed to get to either of them.

Srinath bowling back of the hand long hops on leg stump to a man seeing it like a beach ball in the World Cup Final.

Any other nominations?
Harmi's 0-97 off ten overs against SL.
He retired from ODIs shortly after.

Watching Gavin Hamilton in melt down was painful to watch. I didn't see it, but a 12 ball over against Sussex that included 5 wides and a no ball and ended with him pleading with Blakey to not bowl him again has to be as bad as it gets.

Anyone want tickets for the Boxing Day Test?
'cause if Magoo's in the bloody team I probably won't bother going.

Maybe MacGill will bowl better against the Indians...
That's looking like a high scoring series if MacGill bowls like he's doing now and Bung bowls like he did back in 2003/4 i.e. short and wide.

I think we can safely say that the reason for Dan Cullen’s career collapse and Brad Hogg’s unexpected durability are encapsulated in this masterpiece of Trevving.

I'd totally forgotten about Cullen. Test debut at 22. Last first class match at 24. That is one mighty Treving.

At state level, Cullen had a spin-bowling partner named Cullen Bailey. For a while South Australian fans were hopeful those two would perform like Mallett & Jenner had in the late 60s & early 70s.
It didn't happen!

Both suffered a cullin’ from the team in short order. Bowling average of 50 will do that for you.
