It's scoring patterns in Pakistan's innings which are at issue - so the assumption is that it's their batsmen. I must admit I hadn't given the possibility of collusion from England players any thought. If true sack 'em.

You should be grateful to the bookies as in 18th century England more money was spent on gambling on cricket than on horse-racing and the evolution of cricket scoring from marks on a piece of wood to its present statistical majesty owes its origins to 'spot-betting' i.e. gambling on specific events in the match rather than on just the outcome.

In answer to your question, here's one who, whilst not dead, missed out on a Test career and ended up stranded in New Zealand, which is much the same thing, due to his gambling addiction!

Is the problem not that these players could be in the pockets of shady characters from Dubai and elsewhere? Once you agree to fix one match or one over even ONCE then that's it, they've got you. You can't say no to these guys and they don't do refunds.

It does seem difficult to fix scoring patterns to any degree of reliability without the involvement of the batsmen and bowlers, but to imagine two teams actually colluding to do this in the current climate, that would be beyond stupidity!

I suppose you could have a batting team agreeing to score fewer than X runs in overs Y to Z, that wouldn't involve any knowledge on the bowlers' part, and the only way the bowlers could mess it up would be by conceding extras. Having not seen the Pakistan innings yesterday, were there any spells where rank bad balls were consistently not being put away for example?

The alternative would be to deliberately block certain balls in certain overs irrespective of the total runs scored.

if all they have is the scoring patterns then its ridiculous to investigate ONLY the batting team.

If ICC have more information which they have not released then its a different story.

Certainly no possibility of involvement by the bowlers if it is just a case of low scoring in a couple of overs. I guess this one will be quite difficult to prove though, if it's not based on exact scores or timing of events.

if the original spot fixing fiasco did not happen then this would have been totally laughable...the whole thing has WTF written all over it.

I'd never advocate banning Pakistan for a lengthy period. That's just not fair to their fans, and not good for world cricket. Just cut out the cancer, have a small army of undercover ICC investigators, and keep going.

If the report is true and they are fixing every other game then there is NO choice! Having said that i FEEL that spot fixing is quite common in general and it will be very difficult to stamp it out for good.

There is NO choice. Every game that Pakistan play from now on will have a cloud of suspicion hanging over it. Suspend Pakistan and Pakistani cricketers until the PCB collectively grow a pair and deal with the issue.

For all we know the PCB are in on it.

Conspiracy to defraud Pakistan cricket - Ijaz Butt

A day after the ICC launched a formal investigation into Pakistan's win in the third ODI at The Oval, Ijaz Butt has hit back at what he believes to be a "conspiracy to defraud Pakistan and Pakistan cricket". So basically he is saying that Pakistan only won because England were paid to lose?

His anger is understandable(for one sided investigation with out informing PCB) but to call out the English players was very stupid.

Butt is a bitter old man who needs to be replaced ASAP. The former chairman(DNA) wrecked PAK cricket but at least he was good with media.
