ABC TV Four Corners expose on match fixing - Mon 25th 8.30pm
Next week on Four Corners, “In a Fix”. An investigation into the allegations of corruption and match fixing that threaten to undermine the multi-billion dollar sport of international cricket.
Ten years ago the cricket world was rocked when players admitted they had conspired to “throw” matches for cash. Authorities promised to root out the corruption and keep the game honest. Now reporter Marian Wilkinson looks at the latest allegations involving Pakistan’s national team. Were officials aware that some key players had been in contact with people associated with sports betting before the team left for England? Is the International Cricket Council really serious about investigating questionable activities and what really happened in Sydney when Pakistan lost the unlosable test to Australia?
And for FBers outside Australiua, I believe it will be available online through abc.net.au
4 Corners usually manages to find something startling, should be a good watch.

Can you watch ABC programmes outside Aus on their website? I know the BBC iplayer plocks overseas viewers.
I wonder how much more has been found out.

Ive got a feeling a lot of it will centre around the 'revelations' provided by an "unnamed ex player who doesn't wish to be identified''. *cough* Rashid Latif *cough*.

There are ways to make it so that your computer's location appears to be Australia.

Bob* tells me that shows like Four Corners and Australian Story also turn up for download on some of those dodgy torrent-type sites. One of them is called eztv or summat like that.

It didn't reveal anything, really. Just confirming and enforcing what we already knew and suspected.
India- Powerful
ICC- Weak
Ijaz Butt- A complete loon
Match fixing- Will never be completely eradicated.

I would also add:
- James Sutherland is still the same bumbling media clod that he was when he first got the job
- I feel very sorry for Pakster supporters. As the story opened with, Pakistan - hit by terrorism, corruption and natural disasters, cricket is one of the few pleasures that the Pakistanis can turn to - and even that is torn away from them.
- BanIndia.

Sutherland came across as a milksop. Pity because his brother was hot.
Also confirmed how beholden every other board is to the BCCI and Gideon Haigh's expansive vocabulary.
Punter seemed to wear a perpetual smirk while discussing issues he purported to be shocked about. He also seems in denial about the Sydney test, preferring his version that it was Australia's stellar play rather than Pakistani incompetence or mischief which largely influenced the result.

Sutherland always looks sh!t scared when he talks to the media. Like he's desperate to not make a mistake. Weak.

Pretty underwhelming from 4cnrs.
Although Gideon Haigh once again showed why he is possibly Australia's most impressive cricket expert.

All Haigh did was repeat the obvious in a pompous manner.
It fitted in well with the rest of the story really

agree there was nothing new...ICC came over as complete fools...Sutherland as an ass...Punter was better than expected and Giddy was lucid albeit mournful...the program confirmed that the Bannies are not remotely bothered by illegal bookies

For once I am standing up for BCCI. As incompetent and greedy as they are I don't think there is any nexus between them and the bookies. And now the directorate of enforcement is all over the BCCI affairs post the IPL boil over. I would say there is a nexus between BCCI, Indian politicians, TV networks and major sponsors. But that is probably true of most major sporting organisations. Also I am not sure what BCCI can do to fix the bookie underworld other than make sure that their players don't get caught up.
They could kill IPL. Not sure it will solve the bookie problem but I would like to see it killed anyway.

The spot fixing of no balls surely only benefits a gambler and not a bookmaker ...and the possible "fixing" of the Sydney Test when the odds of Pak losing were 40 to 1 is only a gamblers benefit too

They interviewed the 2IC of the BCCI and he said it is a matter for the ICC and the PCB not for the BCCI. That seemed appropriate enough to me.
However, the pinko journo tried to suggest that they should be throwing their weight around to get something done about it. Having undue influence is what most people want to BanIndia for. Damned if you do, damned if you don't
