I guess, but not everybody can be as grouse with their power as John Howard

Bookies - in almost all cases - have to pay out much more money if a favourite gets up. If a favourite gets rolled, they keep more in their bags.embee wrote:The spot fixing of no balls surely only benefits a gambler and not a bookmaker ...and the possible "fixing" of the Sydney Test when the odds of Pak losing were 40 to 1 is only a gamblers benefit too

I am surprised that bookies would even bet on Pakistani matches. If they aren't in the know of the fix then they are more than likely going to get burnt

Maybe the fix wasn't on before the match, but became irresistible once Pakistan was on top.

That would be the most likely scenario. Unlike spot fixing any match fixing will have to be based on the match situation and hence quite fluid in nature.Zat wrote:Maybe the fix wasn't on before the match, but became irresistible once Pakistan was on top.

The one thing Four Corners did reveal is that the ICC were prepared to suspend Butt, Asif, and Amir based on the NOTW footage, but weren't prepared to open an investigation into the Sydney test based on the same evidence, where Majeed boasts that the Sydney test was fixed. And in the background you could hear the ICC's media man threatening to get their Lawyers if the questioning about the Sydney test continued.
Strange.
Strange.

Australia were favourites before the match ...unless a shedload of money was wagered on Pakistan to win at the time they were 40 to 1 to lose the game then it wouldnt be a bookie organising the fix because the bookies would have been counting their unhatched chickens at that point ...The player agent claimed they made 1.3 million (didnt catch the currency) out of the fix ...thats a 32500 bet (at 40/1) or a sh!t* of bets to gain farquall for a bookie

If I was a bookie (legal or illegal) and I'd paid out on someone whod backed Oz at 40/1 in that test I'd be sending the heavies around to ask a few questions of the punters kneecaps

There's a difference between throwing 20 or 50 at a stupid bet than throwing 30000+ at it

Lighten up. Let's face it if you can't laugh at this farce you'll just end up chewing on a pistol or getting hooked on valium or something.
