Actually it was slack as. I commented on Seve's passing hours ago and neglected my duties in this thread.
And the moral of the above list is that picking sick old geezers and getting your noms in early doesn't this contest win.

So let's raise a glass to Gough and Margaret Whitlam, and Sir Bob of Hawke on their rude health.
I am surprised nobody "went for" Paul Keating.

Re: Celebrity Death List MMXI / The Death Thread 2011
Looking at the lists above the "sick geezers" appear to be:
1) Ariel Sharon whom I had last year and whom Demelza has this but who should really be disqualified as being neither alive nor dead. He puts me in mind of Dorothy Parker's famous remark when Calvin Coolidge died - "How can they tell".
2) Z-Z G who seems to be being gradually peeled away in a geriatric version of the film Boxing Helena so it may be a moot point to consider whether there is enough left to shuffle off this mortal coil, as the Warwickshire bard said.
3) Christopher Hitchens, who like Sevvy, is also a cancer case although his mental faculties are unimpaired and he continues to publish his views on current world events, including the topping of OBL, if the web is anything to go by.
All 3 of us have one strike to our name so if mortality is preceded by illness, rather than accident, deliberate intent or senescence, one of us should become the first to add two strikes to their account. Difficult to say which although the youngest could come first and the Hitchens family may be the next to receive sad tidings.

You'd have got pretty good odds on Lionel getting anywhere near 60 back when he was 45 - too much grog, too many old boxing injuries, marriage over. He did well to rebuild his life, he and Mrs R re-married - but the good times were all too short.
RIP Lionel - a fighter to the end.

Oops, sorry. I don't remember how to post a link!
Press the button 9th from the right. 2 drop boxes come down. Put the url address in the top box. Write some words of your own in the bottom box et voila:
Sun Goes Down on John Walker
Colour is optional. Image link box is immediately to the left of the text link button. It's a good idea to press the preview button before posting. You can click on the link to check that it works. A new window will open and you will not lose your posted message. Most common error is for a space to appear between "url=" and the rest of the address after you have pasted it in which case the whole link will still appear in your message as I have just found. Once this is resolved everything should (!) be fine.

Remember years ago when Randy Newman had that song with the line
"Dead people got no reason to live"
They don't write songs like that anymore.
