Draft AB for Coach
I don't normally start threads but this is dire. Forget this crap about removing Hilditch, Nielsen and Ponting after the Gilly. Sack them all now. Give AB the coaching role with a 'technical staff', not a 'support group', give him a limited veto over the new NSP and remove the power to name the captain from the Board or revamp the Board's make-up and responsibilities.

If AB even considered it, his contract would surely have to contain a clause saying "fark Hildick off"?

I suspect that's the real reason AB walked from his second spell as a selector.
Right now, I'd even take Geoff Lawson as coach.

You were either drunk or stoned or something else when you posted that. Please tell me you were either drunk, stoned or on the receiving end of a really good blow job by a blonde chick named Inga and couldn't really give a sh!t about anything else when you posted that.

Re: Draft AB for Coach
The thing that Lawson has going for him is that he's not part of the matey, inner circle of the Aus team. Ponting confirmed as much when he said that he didn't respect Lawson.
Could be just what they need- an outsider to come in and tell them the truth- That they're sh!t, and it can't be tolerated anymore. None of this back-slapping, bubble of mateyness where nothing is ever wrong.

Lawson wasn't even a good bowler. There's a reason he'sd an optmioetrist. He might go well in Sydney where he has mounted a one man assault on calling one of the ends the "the Sydney Uni end" just to remind us that a batchelors degree doesn't translate into anything remotely resembling cricketing nous.

You know, I reckon AB would end up necking himself trying to instil Test match technique into the KFC kids. I didn't watch the final throes the other day; not because of the result, I just couldn't stand & watch Smith batting.

I don't know that AB would worry about technique. More about the overall approach to the game and the situations that arise within the course of a game.

Dean "I'm a loud-mouthed dickhead" Jones is bigging up SRW, so the nooz said tonight. SRW said he was willing to take part in a post-mortem and help point the national side in the right direction if asked, but said he wasn't interested in the full time coach postion.

Where does SRW get his income from these days? I imagine he's employed as a motivational speaker and advisor by various companies?

Re: Draft AB for Coach
The nooz said he has a very hectic business life (hence his lack of interest in the national coaching position). I know he bought a building for $1.6M in Crows Nest 5 or 6 years or so ago. I think he has his fingers in a lot of pies.Henry wrote:Where does SRW get his income from these days? I imagine he's employed as a motivational speaker and advisor by various companies?

Well that's it then. We make AB captain, he can bat at 10, he'd make more runs than Hilf, be no less effective with the ball, bring lots of grouseness, half a ton of harden the fack up and would be happy to punch Sutherland a couple of times a month (if not, he can delegate to me).
The coaching we can leave to specialist consultants, former players who actually undertand what's required to be successful.

After 2 days at the MCG and 5 days at the SCG, you think I was sober? Be thankful I hadn't necked myself...Bradman wrote:Zat wrote:I suspect that's the real reason AB walked from his second spell as a selector.

Forgetting Headingly in'81 (should've opted for The Open qmy) the three days in Melbourne was topped by being isolated in a sh!thouse town that shouldn't be isolated because there's about 40 million cows and enough coal to keep the world polluting the atmosphere for the next millenium.
Though the $14B the state govt is spending to make sure farkhead spiv wannabes can get to work five minutes earlier in Brisbane is obviously money well spent and a couple of flood proof road bridges keeping said cows and coal coming through is obviously of no account.

Re: Draft AB for Coach
qmy, are there flood levee banks protecting any of the towns flooded in Qld at the moment?
In NSW, when the floods came through in some parts in 1956, and more areas in the mid 70s, the state government actually went out and built a bunch of levee banks to protect towns.
Haven't heard of any such structures in news coverage of the Qld floods. And as it's not exactly the first time floods have come through, it's a bit dim to not have acted by now.

Oh, and which genius decided that the old flood-protected 'Queenslander' houses up on stilts wasn't worth perservering with? Anyone whose place has been built at ground level, and has been flooded deserves nothing by way of assistance payments.
