Re: Australian State Cricket 2010/11 (II)
GCS and Floosy got tons vs the Wozzies
Hattie is the second highest dubber run scorer this season
Koaja is the highest
Fleas is captain
Thats 4 openers and a number 3 to bat in the first 5
Happy is young
Bull got decent runs vs the Wozzies
If any of them could keep you could piss Nifty off

Hopes got the Shield player of the year?? Clearly I wasn't paying much attention throughout the season.
Was it an encouragement award to dissuade him from topping himself on the account of his dearth of good looks?

Amusing that both the DOD and Shield PotY aren't seemingly close to selection for national honours.
And does anyone care who was the winner of the DTT PotY?

Hopes had a great season ... some high scores and two 6-fors that I recall.
Very solid one day player ... more likely to contribute than either Smith or White IMO.

His international record is credible. Has outplayed YT plenty enough.

Noffke Dorey Magoffin Heal Johnston Swart Bandy Fawcett told their Warriors contracts wont be renewed .
I predict Matty Johnston will end up in Qbillytown or Vomitville and be a very successful Shield cricketer.

Noffers and Dorey had noth retired
Maggs should have got another contract ...unless his leg is totally screwed
Heal is a limited over specialist and I think possibly now a T20 specialist so it was hard to keep his place with the new franshise being separate from the WACA
Jonno ...see first post
Swart and Bandy...overtaken by a lot of young talented players ....neither took their opportunities
Fawcett ...young player ...may make it back ...passed by Harris and Beaton
Towers was also not renewed ...didnt do enough when he was given a chance ...young enough to make it back

I would have thought the established middle order would have copped a bit more...they seem to score when they feel like it but not when their team needs it.
feel a bit for the bowlers...mebbe Heal could move to chip central...depoends on whether the Bills want to keep up the development of their leggie

Re: Australian State Cricket 2010/11 (II)
Wright formally retires
"DEC Bushrangers paceman Damien Wright has formally announced his retirement from first-class cricket in Australia after 15 years in the game.
The veteran quick has played for Victoria and Tasmania in the Australian domestic competition, Australia A, four English counties, Scotland and New Zealand provincial side Wellington throughout his decorated career.
Wright played his final match for the Bushrangers on the weekend in their last Sheffield Shield clash of the season against Queensland at the Gabba. Whilst the decision to ‘call it a day' hadn't been made at the start of the match, he said he knew it was his time as the game concluded.
"I guess I wanted to go out on my own terms whilst feeling satisfied and happy," he said.
"When our match against Queensland finished, I realised it was my time and the right moment for me to go out.
"I've been really lucky to be a part of several titles and achieve what I have during my career; it's been an amazing journey and a ride I've really enjoyed."
The 35-year-old made his first-class debut for Tasmania in the 1997/98 season and went onto play 11 seasons with the Tigers, including being a part of their history making maiden Shield title in 2006/07. In that match he displayed an amazing all-round performance, claiming 3/38 and 5/13 with the ball and making 67 and 47 with the bat.
In 2008/09 he moved states after being offered a lifeline and opportunity by former coach Greg Shipperd to join the Bushrangers.
"I've been very lucky to have Shippy as a coach throughout my career in both Tasmania and now in Victoria," Wright said.
"He's provided me with many opportunities, he started my first-class career off and now ironically I'll finish it under him.
"I'm extremely fortunate to have him as a mentor - he is someone who has played a huge role in my career and I thank him for that."
The acquisition of Wright proved to be extremely valuable for the Vics pace-attack, he took 24 wickets in his first season with Victoria at an average of 28.5 and provided some valuable late order batting. He was also a part of the team that claimed the Sheffield Shield title against Queensland.
Wright's career could be summed by the 2009/10 season. Another frustrating injury curtailed the start of his season, ruling him out of the first five Shield matches - however he came back for the last six games, bowling magnificently to lead Victoria to back-to-back Shield titles.
He finished the season with 35 wickets at an average of 14.3 and was rewarded with the prestigious Bill Lawry Medal for the best Bushrangers player of the Sheffield Shield season.
This season Wright opened the bowling and maintained a tight line, always proving difficult for batsmen to get a hold of. He took 26 wickets at an average of 30.65 and was dangerous right to the end, taking 3/68 against Queensland in his last game.
A great team man on-and-off the field, Wright has also been a significant part of Victoria's success in the Ryobi One-Day Cup this season and the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash in past seasons in a bowling coach capacity.
Wright, despite his immediate retirement from the Bushrangers, will still play for Worcestershire County Cricket Club as planned for half of the season from April. Looking forward, he hopes to continue his role as a bowling coach for Cricket Victoria.
