2013-2014 Ashes will be back-to-back
A cricketing feast? Or overkill? Apparently it's necessary because of the World Cup. I don't know how many people will GAF about the next World Cup after the seven week debacle that this one is going to be, but there you go.
Once again, Cricket Australia's spokesman talking about nothing except the $$$$ that it will bring in. Do they have any tact at all?

It's not the Ashes that's the problem - it's the insane number of ODIs played afterwards.

Well, I suppose if we c*ck it up next time there's a chance to put it right very quickly... but it doesn't seem right to break up the normal cycle of it. I suppose it may lead to more frequent Ashes series, particularly if other countries are losing interest in Test cricket.

It's the monotiny of the same opponent time after time, I always liked the Tri-series for that very reason. If one team had the wood over you, you could always find form against a different side...

When will the ICC release the next FTP and end all the conjecture?
And will India finally host Bangladesh in Tests as part of it?

They are waiting for the IPL to finalise it's schedule.

The question we should be asking ourselves is not 'When can we schedule some more The AshesTM matches?' but 'Are there any days when we should not be scheduling them?'
Looking at the calendar for the next few years, obviously the Royal Wedding is a no-no, in case Sir Mick Jagger or Stephen Fry has a diary clash and can't be photographed in the crowd at an The Ashes TM Test Match TM, and then there's the football European Championships. As we have stressed many times in the past, the future of cricket relies on attracting people who do not like cricket, and football fans are a key target. Obviously nobody could be expected to follow both sports at once.

Fark me, 2013, 2013/14, then 2015.
I love the Ashes but that's overkill, they are special because they don't come around that often.
I suppose if things continue it could be our chance to cash in on a weakened Aussie side, the last 30 years have really screwed up our statistics against them so I guess it's good that this is happening whilst we appear to be on the up and them on the down.
They'll probably have sorted themselves out by then though .

It was only a matter of time before the cricketing bureaucrats got around to cheaping The Ashes the same way they've cheaped everything else.
That said, I'd rather play a decent, well-attended series with Australia once a year than wait around twiddling my thumbs through the monotony of the "filler" years with series against Bangladesh, NZ and Windies that really have a stench of who gives a f*ck about them at the best of times.

And less said about Pakistan last year the better... in other words, there's only three other opponents worth turning out for, really, and that's if you count a post-chucker era Sri Lanka as one of them...

The Windies tours are always fun (unless we schedule 2 test series in early May that is). And lets be honest, they hammered us for so many years we shouldn't desert them now that we have turned the tables.
Re: 2013-2014 Ashes will be back-to-back
And we did lose the last series out there...

CA has scheduled a two Test series v W Indies in mid 2015.

Aye. I did change my tune after 2013 though, it was pretty clear after then that we were going to lose although I still wouldn't have predicted 5-0.lardbucket wrote:vilkrang wrote:Fark me, 2013, 2013/14, then 2015.

I'm already resigned to the first Aussie series win in England since 2001, I can't remember ever having so little hope for a series. At least if the weather is shit then there's a chance it won't be another 5-0.

They only deserve a one-off Test now, as per the likes of Bangladesh. No guarantee their first choice players will even show up...

If they can't get their own house in order, in terms of administration, attitude and development of players, they are owed fark all by the rest of the world. India could still put them out of business after the cancelled tour a few months ago.

Bypass the administrators and contract the players something worthwhile if they're available for their country.

I have sympathy with that, because Windies administrators have long dipped their bread in the gravy of their players' success with little apparent payback in terms of investment in the long-term future of cricket in the Caribbean.

If the Windies splitting up and each country going their separate ways means players playing with 100% passion and commitment, I'm all for it. Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and Barbados could field very good teams. The others, maybe less so.

Surely they would all be associate members, though, playing the likes of Holland, Nepal, and the UAE.
It's probably time to have two tiers of Test cricket, as has been discussed here before. Barbados, Trinidad and Jamaica would occasionally threaten the upper echelon; probably battling constantly with Bangladesh and Zimbabwe for promotion/relegation.
