No better host than India!
Are you the BCCI's book keeper?
attendance at last odi with zim in aus and not involving aus - 4k
attendance at last day of an ashes test
brisbane - 7k
adelaide - 8.5k
perth - 16.5k
melbourne - 19k
sydney - 19k
Lies, damned lies, and statistics.
You choose to compare an ODI to the last day of the Ashes Tests; you believe that's a valid or even interesting comparison? ... that is a pathetically transparent agenda.

There's still Bangladesh and Ireland to get past of course, and they're (supposedly) much better than Holland...
Reminds me of 2003 when Namibia gave us an almighty scare, remember Jan-Berrie Burger smashing it all round the park and us being behind on Duckworth-Lewis for quite a while with rain threatening, before they eventually fell away! Back then we were found wanting when playing the stronger sides, as in 1999 and 2007 as well, and this was a much closer call than that occasion.
Bowling and fielding just a complete shambles, even the batting effort showed some familiar failings
I'm not too worried about the fielding, we'l pick up as we have improved a shedload in that area. The big worries for me are Jimmy Anderson and the lack of a power player in the middle order with KP now opening and Morgan injured.

Geez, went to bed last night with the Clogs on 177 with 10 to go. I thought 250 would be a good effort from there, but have just seen the highlights and they managed a very creditable 292. Well done to England for chasing down a challenging target.
Um, would "scrappy" be a fair word to use in relation to England's fielding effort?

Like I said, I think Jimmy has probably played his first and last game in this World Cup. Reckon they'll get Shahzad in there for the India game.

I don't think the "s" is necessary...skully wrote:Um, would "scrappy" be a fair word to use in relation to England's fielding effort?
The concerning thing about such a poor effort in the field is that it suggests the team aren't mentally in the right place. It's just not doing the basics, which we all know this side is more than capable of doing. Whether it's continuing Ashes hangover or just a lack of confidence in this format and a feeling at the end of a long winter that we're not going to win it and just wanting to get it over with? Play like this against India and we could be chasing 400+, or have a reasonably competitive total knocked off in 30 overs by Sachin, Sehwag and co.

Jimmy A and KP, Allan.
While it wasn't a complete surprise to hear Anderson bowled some absolute pap ( he doesn't seem the same bowler nowadays in limited overs cricket as in Tests) he's usually one of our very best fielders.

you conveniently overlook the last zim odi figures in aus
there are no figures for crowds at matches involving non test nations in aus
and i always hear how aussies are more interested in tests, especially ashes, than limited overs
fact really is that aus would struggle to get half the crowd that nagpur did yesterday for a similar match. the last world cup there had non-aus games in rural settings watched by sparse crowds

You can't really blame the Bannies for getting a bit WTF about Yet Another Bloody WC in India - this makes three out of the last eight seven, as many as Oz, Sith F and the Windies put together.

Statistically ...a crowd of 15000 in India is like a crowd of 294 in Australia

The word as i recall from the second last time Oz went to India (two and a half years ago) was that they charged like angry heifers and facilities for spectators inside the ground were diabolical.

What, now you're comparing crowds attracted in Australian rural towns of 25000 with crowds attracted in Indian cities of several million, and using them to support your argument? What IS your argument? You seem to be all over the place.
Australians do prefer Tests to ODIs. Your dredging out of the relatively lower LAST day Ashes figures doesn't undermine this fact.

Re: World Cup 2011
Poms really dodged a bullet last night. I thought Australia's effort was carp but England's effort really raised the bar. My prediction still stands. neither side will make it past the semi's.

its a pretty simple argument - most other countries would struggle to attract larger crowds for an england-netherlands game
i'm sorry if you cant see that
as for aussies preferring tests, for the last ashes tour the crowds at adelaide (which is the only ground to have attendance stats for all 3 matches)
odi - 34,393
t20 - 32,205
test - 26,912 (daily average)
those test numbers no doubt boosted by the english fans, who at the end of the tests seemed to be the only fans left in the ground
for pakistan the previous year at melbourne
t20 - 60,054
test - 31,153 (daily average)

That has to be the worst misuse of stats ever. And that includes the Paks trying to prove that figjam was the greatest bowler ever.
