Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
Rick Stone, Newcastle Knights coach, has been on FOx Sports News this morning bemoaning the scrum penalties that were handed out on the weekend, saying the game will go to some dark days if the referees keep doing it.
What a load of shoite. If the players play to the rules, they won't be penalised. It's the same as the idiots in the Nein commentary box (and that prize qunt Ray Hadley) complaining about referees giving penalties when a player is a step over teh line at a kick-off, or a line drop out is taken a matre over the line.
It's fairly simple, if the players don't break the rules, they won't be penalised, and it's way beyond time the rules of the games were enforced properly. It's because the authorities were soft in the late 80s that leeeeeg scrums have become to farce they are.
And as an aside, what has been the number one thing fans want in the game in surveys over the past ten or more years? Scrums to be a contest. Anyone who breaks teh rules and then complains about being caught for breaking the rules should chuck in playing leeeeg and move to Sri Lanka.

They were warned the scrums would be better policed before the season started. Bunch of sooks, The way it was going they were just going to give up any pretence of feeding them and throw the ball straight to 5/8.

Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
It's a bit odd though. Everyone seemed happy with the non-entity that scrums had become. I hated the bad old days when scrum penalties could decide matches. It was always a frikkin lottery.
Perhaps they are just looking to tighten up things like the lock not breaking from the scrum until the ball has cleared the scrum base?

The medicos put in their own two bob's worth about slowing the game down for safety reasons. Though scrum penalties like LBW decisions are the reason you play the game. Can you imagine not being allowed to bitch after the final whistle/stumps if htese things were relatively simply adjudicated?

Yeah and Quayle and Arthurson didn't have players on their books being paid 100 grand a year to clean the club pool.

not saying the dreaded silvertails behaved better...fact remains bennet's success is partly contingent on the resources made available to him...a pretty ruthless person when it came to the cattle in his charge...demanded a lot of loyalty but did not always show much himself...do not remember him ever taking responsibility after a loss - always the players

if he still feels he has something to prove he'd have to go to Souths wouldn't he? The fat rich qunt might see him in Newcastle but Crowe isn't exactly living on Salvo handouts.

Re: Rugby Leeeeeg 2011
I used to be fanatical about the Drags, h, but it ended up ruining my weekends. So I am very much the "You beauty, they won - meh, they lost" type of supporter these days.horace wrote:the drags would have offered a shedload...skulls would have chipped inhalf his super
Interesting press conference. As h has alluded, St George apparently did make him a big offer to stay, confirmed by Benny's comment "if it was about money, I wouldn't be leaving". But oddly he also said he wasn't motivated to go elsewhere to prove something, but was still purely motivated by results. I reckon that'll see him back at the Broncs.

I'm actually a bit torn. Something in me wants to see a resurgent Souths and something makes me start looking for ratsac for even considering the feelings of a foundation(?) club.

I have no sympathy for Souths with the egomaniac Crowe at the helm.

His two handicapped boys where a bit of a fixture at Drags training, so I think they visit a lot.
