I thought he played the percentage. If you look at the previous ball it was a bit of a heave to get a couple, could've been bowled. Would've looked a complete tit playing that shot and getting out to the last ball.

Am I the only one who was practically begging for a tie when the last ball was being bowled?

Hmmm, no vilks, I was too. I didn't want the England team to send a wave of anticlimax around India.

Don't get me wrong I would have preferred us to win, but I honestly thought he was going to be either caught or bowled off the last ball. Or miss the ball altogether and get run out.

And let's be honest. England would have taken a tie straight away if it had been offered to them before the match. Would have killed for a tie after the completion of the Indian innings.
At least this tie combined with the win over the Dutch has (I think) meant that we can now afford to slip on one of either the Ireland or Bangladesh banana skins and still progress to the next round.

Did you give it a try after the 1999 and 2003 World Cups?

I'd have taken a tie when Prior and Collingwood were in, I knew they'd both get out quickly to twat shots. I didn't give us a chance around that point.

No, but can remember getting horribly pissed after the 1999 semi.

Why would I want to do that? Was a great match and we are still in the competition.taipan wrote:vilkrang wrote:Eh?taipan wrote:vilkrang wrote:Am I the only one who was practically begging for a tie when the last ball was being bowled?

Erm, just quietly, any suspicion about the Zim/Aus game or the Ind/Eng game is utter bulltwang and a greasy Indian press monkey beat up.
Haddin was flummoxed by the fact that the Zimmers opened with Ray Price - a very handy lefty orthodox spinner who bowled very tightly and has troubled Aus in the past. He had no clue how to adjust his game plan and wanted to ensure Aus started the tournament well, so was very reluctant to throw the bat.
And JKL is right. Swanny smeared the last ball, but unfortch straight to the fielder. He could've easily been the hero had the ball been slightly left or right of the bloke he nailed it to.

I agree..the whole thing is just another anti-Australian beatup by the Indian media.
Re: Aus-Zim game under ICC anti-corruption scanner.....
I don't understand this viewpoint. Of course if a Pakistani had tweeted a tie prediction just before a tie occured it would raise suspicions. That is the inevitable backlash from having had proven cheats in your team. It will be a generation at least before Pakistani cricketers are not looked at with doubt every time they produce an unlikely result. Meanwhile, people such as Warne, who's countrymen have by and large not been caught match fixing, should be free to predict whatever they like.Henry wrote:To be honest, they have a point about the Warne text. If, say, Salim Malik had tweeted seven hours before and India v Pakistan game that it would be a tie only for it to be proved correct, we'd all scream "FIXING!"
In any case, it's not as if Warne has made many right predictions lately (unless I missed his 'three innings defeats by the poms' one)

Warnie was just displaying the typical seno attitude of I hate bannies and poms equally and I want neither of them to win.
All this holier than thou reaction of Aus could not possibly spot fix and it is an affront that the ICC is even thinking it is a bit rich (eg Nobhead Slater). If the ICC is invesitigating than good on them for doing their job but let's hope they find nothing.,

Not only that, but Shahzad pulled a sixer out of his arse, off a decent ball that would've flattened all three stumps to drag England back from the brink in that final over. If that was all scripted, those guys are better actors than cricketers.
