SA choked but also had one of those shocking days when they failed to turn up.

They were 3/124.
7 wickets for 41 runs.
Unbelievable.

Also amazing that I'm struggling to recall 3 better world cup matches involving England than the last 3, they've all been classics.
So are we definitely through to the next stage now? Or can we still f*ck it up?

I'm sure I posted a few months ago about how South Africa had something special saved up and quoted similar figures to the above.

RB is MOTM ... fair enough on a rough wicket.

Still would have preferred Broad, bowlers rarely seem to get MOMs in ODIs.OP Tipping wrote:RB is MOTM ... fair enough on a rough wicket.

I would have given the award to Swanny to be honest. The scoreboard says he took 1-29 but I reckon the spitting cobras he bowled today made South Africa panic. He could have had 6-29 on another day.

From here, if you lose everything and Ireland has a couple more jaggy wins you're gone. But that's not likely. You're all but home.
I hate you so much, South Africa.

If we lose to both the Windies and the Bangles AND if ireland pull a couple of wins out of their arses it's possible. And, knowing England - there will be a few wobbles on the way.

Their batting was woeful and their tactics in the field were odd. They seemed to allow Trott and Bopara licence to just stay in and make runs while they meandered along.
Thank goodness for them Sooky is retiring from the ODI captaincy after this WC. He should hang up the bat too the way he's been going for these last few months.
Maybe his new stunner of an Irish singer girlfriend has distracted him.

Sorry but as the person who is guaranteed a spot, he really is your weakest link.
Not Yardy, not Prior. It is Strauss.
The time for Swann and Anderson was four overs ago. The game is now lost.
I haven't seen this match or any bad decisions made, but isn't Strauss our top scorer in this world cup? Isn't he the top scorer of any batsman at this world cup?
It's quite hard to be a "weak link" when you've scored more runs than any other player in the tournament, questionable captaincy or not.
He's got a hundred, a fifty and a duck so far. One for the stat men.

To keep banging on about SA choking detracts from a pretty impressive effort from England in the field. Although Strauss's love affair with Yardy is beginning to grate.
I think we may have seen the last of Collingwood in England colours barring injury.

It wasn't choking. Crap wicket, crap SA lower order. Far way from choking.
As a pom you should be happy it almost made Jimmikins look a good bowler.

I agree, it wasn't all down to choking. Only the Du Plessis run out reeked of panic.
But even if the South Africans honestly feel in their hearts they didn't choke, the C word will be in every single report of this game tomorrow morning, which will pile the pressure on them.

From 48 to win with 7 wickets remaining and no run rate worries to then lose by 6 wickets is a choke I'm afraid.

Fark off Vilks. it was a low scoring game. I have admitted to chokes in the past, but this wasn't one.

Stay in denial then. You lost ten wickets for just over a ton including an awful shot from JP and an unnecessary run out. That crap lower order won't change either and just might be needed to pull you through. At least SA fans don't have to get too excited this WC because they just don't seem to have the team on paper which can win it.
