From the widget box over there to the right:

Friends Provident t20 to be scaled back in 2012
The Friends Provident t20 will be reduced from the 2012 season as part of a new structure for domestic cricket.

The pool stage is to be cut from 16 games per team to 10, with eight teams then advancing to the quarter-finals.

The County Championship is to remain unchanged in two divisions of nine teams, with each playing 16 games.

The Clydesdale Bank 40 will be reviewed independently before an England and Wales Cricket Board meeting in May and could be reduced to 20 teams.

The CB 40 currently consists of 21 teams - the 18 counties plus Unicorns, Scotland and the Netherlands - playing in three groups of seven, with four teams advancing to the semi-finals.

The 20-team format would see the competition split into five pools, leading to an additional quarter-final round.

The independent review comes after concerns were raised about the potential lack of guaranteed one-day cricket in August and September.

Sounds like a slightly better structure. Of course, if I was to be cynical I would ask if the reduction in the number of games was to allow some sort of 'window' for teams to play in the CLT20, or some players to play in the IPL...

Well at least they are going to do something. Far too late, this could have been put in place for this season as it was obvious it wasn't working before last season was over.

Good to see them admitting their mistake and going back to something like it was before. At least they haven't ruined the Championship which has worked well in producing competitive cricket over the past decade, and can't be a coincidence that England's Test fortunes have generally improved.

We'll see what happens with the 40/50 over competition but it looks like it could mean less matches overall. Still think they need to go back to 50 overs if ODI cricket is to continue in that format.

Aye to that. They could do worse than resurrect the old B & H format of group stages then a knockout.
