Thank You Gary!
Our best coach, in addition to my favourite Saffie batsman. You have been an absolute legend in the time you've been here.

Aye, Kirsten's record is pretty damn grouse. An outstanding acquisition by the light blue team.

Re: Thank You Gary!
Think Kirsten would probably find it tough to replicate these results himself with any other team. Sometimes fate and timing of things come together superbly to chart a course of history.
We definitely owe a lot to Kirsten after the mess Greg Chappell left us in with his 'Vision' 2007.

Surely he must be a shoe-in to coach South Africa now. If he's not their new coach then South Africa have serious problems.

He is in the running but incredibly they are still looking at other candidates. Def not a shoe in yet. India benefited having both new captain and coach working together as the baton was passed into Dhoni's hands from Dravid/Kumble senior club. Now CSA should replace Smith with a new captain [even in tests, Smith should play as a batsman] and with someone like Kirsten start afresh. Since the one day team will have a new captain, complications about handling and managing 2 different captains can be avoided. It's time for a new bold direction.

Somehow I don't think Kirsten fits into Hudson's vision.
Why sack Smith? He is probably the most astute captain around at the moment.

Because he resigned as Captain of South Africa?

Re: Thank You Gary!
Having 2 different captains for one dayers and tests do generate a lot of strain and man management problems later. It could possibly lead to split loyalties among common players, especially in events of player selections under a quota regime and captains preferences. Better to have a single leader with a shared vision.

BTW, I am now seriously curious to know as to what Hudson's vision is for SA? I can't imagine why he wouldn't want his former opening partner and reliable man of integrity like Kirsten around. Of course I can imagine Kirsten having issues with quota selections.

Because Hudson has a weak personality and is so far up the administrators arse?
Because he will not agree with Kisten's lifestyle?

Re: Thank You Gary!
More Dhoni than Gary
With a captain like Dhoni you don't really need a coach. I am quite confident that Dhoni would have done well "under" most coaches unless it was some one like Greg Chappell or Javed Miandad who were too LARGE of a personality to let the captain make his own decision.
People like Wright and Gary are ideal for a star studded team PLUS a great captain while Miandad type person is good for a young team.

So looks like SA will be stuck with Fleming next? There were reports that Warne wanted India job and now he has denied it. Whoever succeeds Gary will have a tough follow up and have more expectations to meet so I don't see people throwing in their hats in the ring that fast yet.

Where's the thanks to Chappell? He made sure that shitheaps like Ganguly were drained of the power they didn't warrant. He made the brave decisions. This bloke just sat back and watched.

That the same Chappell who thought of Raina as the next test superstar? The one along convinced Dravid to drop someone like Laxman from tests against Lanka and England when he didn't deserve to be dropped in order to play '5 bowlers'. That Laxman decision backfired big time in Mumbai where we lost and India drew the home series to England instead of winning it. Was a sh!t coach and created more chaos than order with his dictatorial methods. To think that Lanka wanted him and we bagged him...

Re: Thank You Gary!
Andy Flower and Duncan Fletcher in the running to replace Kirsten for India and England is now considering offering Flower another 3 year deal before India BCCI makes a move. So after replicating the Aus model in our cricket we are now turning to doing things the Pommie way.
