Re: Thank You Gary!
fletcher and flower dont make that much sense, especially flower. he would probably be quite jaded after being coach of england for a while now
we need coaches who have not already coached established test teams - like wright and kirsten. the next coach will also probably have been recommended by the senior indian players

Re: Thank You Gary!
Taking the Indian job would be a proper timebomb.
They're quite an overrated team, have been for a while now. They're surviving either by doctoring home pitches or outbatting the opposition. This is all well and good until their chucker isn't in the team or their decrepit batting line-up finally decide to give up. Then it's a load of fatted-up FTBs / mediocre non-chucking spinners coming into the team - of course, their absolutely hysterical fanbase would place the blame solely on the incumbent coach.
Timebomb.

What? I'm serious.
Narrow, unconvincing series wins or series draws have been obtained.
Some of them have been obtained by producing dustbowls.
Some of them have been obtained by way of the awesome batting line-up (usually) flogging the sh!thouse attacks around.
Bhajji chucks. He's been useful on "scenario a" tracks.
The old chaps have to give the game up at some point. Not even Hobbs continued until he died.
India's replacements are mediocre by comparison, yet incredibly hyped up; both in the batting department and spinning department. They barely ever have any pace bowlers worth a mention, the manful ZAK excepted. Finally, the Indian mass media and fans are amongst the most hyperbolic around, totally magnified by the massive size of the place. Should it not all go to planned through the imminent transitional period, I wouldn't want to be the coach involved at the time - the fans are irrational at the best of times, they'll point the blame squarely on the coach.
Re: Thank You Gary!
you could probably say the same about all teams and their victories in similar but different words. india has one of the best teams around as of now. india has to play what is in front of them and frankly there are no great teams around or any that india would not fancy a series win against
of course the scenario could be quite bleak if you are an absolute pessimist or a loser. but hopefully india is looking for a winner and someone with a positive mind. someone who has the courage and belief to take it further. much like gary in 2007-08, when india had a much bleaker future than now

Re: Thank You Gary!
Definitely. There are no really good teams around at the minute and India are amongst the best that are around, incredibly level with SA IMO (just a shame they compete in quadruply-massively-gigantically-gay non 5 Test series so we'll never, ever, ever really know) and a little bit in front of the next three.
You can call it loser talk if you like, but not many will "steal" you three or four wins like VVS has. These are true powerhouses that will be nigh-on impossible to replace. Whatever you say about Kirsten, he's had some decent batsmen to rely on and it sort of renders his part in India's success somewhat irrelevant obviously not completely.
If money and renown is the thing for next coach, fine, but I can't see it being much better than a poisoned chalice.

Is there any shred of evidence at all that SRT and VVS are not immortal?
And if you don't want to coach India where would you want to coach?

There isn't any proof, but Sachin said they aren't whilst juggling live, unpinned grenades.
Where would I want to coach? Probably anywhere but India and Pakistan as I reckon the stress would outweigh the money / rewards. I think Kirsten has been fortunate he's presided over this period. We saw in 2007 that really India don't need a coach.

Re: Thank You Gary!
It's an ideal role for someone like Kirsten was 2 years ago, i.e someone looking to get their spurs. You'd be working with a core of players that don't need much technical coaching and can focus on developing your own coachy skills. Whatever they might be. Throw downs and sh!t. Bollard fondling etc.
A recently retired player that's not a total cockface. Fleming for example.

Re: Thank You Gary!
Could you please explain the techniques involved in bollard fondling?
There are a number of bollards in my local supermarket carpark. If I practise fondling them, could I apply for the Indian coaching position?

its certainly not a cushy job. but then again being coach of india has never been cushy. you certainly need someone with courage and someone who wants to do something big, not someone who is looking to getting paid just for turning up
in 2007 india was about to implode post-chappell. but first the senior players steadied it for 6 months and then kirsten took over. the new coach will have an easier time considering the normal tenure is 2-3 years and the powerhouse batting will be there for the majority of that time. with most of the senior test batsmen out of the limited overs sides he will even get a chance to mould a few youngsters for the future

Re: Thank You Gary!
Aye, I probably agree with spang's post about a relative newbie, Fleming fitting the bill perfectly. I'm not sure I agree with the one's points about the batting line-up. I'd be surprised to see all three of the oldies still there in 18 months max. It's a long time in cricket.

Our 'chucker' has been pretty sh!tty a lot of the time. And yes there are quite a few mediocre and frankly sh!t players on the queue right now. But there is hope. A lot lot more than I had a few years ago.
Also Sachin, Zak, VVS, Sehwag and Gambhir are all absolute LEGENDS.

Certainly, once you've lived down the embarrassment and attended attended a Bollards have feelings session.
